Can someone confirm that these are oysters?

I live in wisconsin, found these in the woods while hunting. I have not found these before however every oyster mushroom I've ever seen looks like these. They are growing on a dead/dying tree, I would have to go look again to tell you the species. I have not done a spore print and I know try are usually required but I just feel like it might not be necessary in this particular situation. Please forgive me for not following the "template" especially as a newer member, I assure everyone I did read the "recommendations" and as stated just thought this might be a quick easy id so spore print wasn't necessary.

Is there anything I should do before I harvest, cook them up and eat them?
Anything I should do to be 100% sure they are safe to eat?
Would you harvest right up to the tree and cut/pull away or leave them stubby on the tree?

Just look out for bugs/bacteria. You should be fine. Be curteous to the fungus. Leave about a third of the fruits to grow and spread spores. This will ensure you get years and years of delicious oysters.

You must have had some bad ones. The smell is supposed to be mild and quite pleasant.

yes, mild and pleasant, a subtle hint of seafood. I've been picking them for 20 years, they were not bad.

I would harvest right up against the tree, cutting it flat with a knife. Unlike e.g. chicken of the woods, oysters do not grow back from the stump and will have to start from a new pin anyway.

Yes you can eat those or you can first day deliver them to me and I will eat them. But cut them and they may flush a few times in the next few weeks.. If you pull you might be done for the year.
