Habitat: wood, wood chips, sawdust
Gills: pale young, darkening with age
Stem: 7cm x .75cm
Cap: Tawny brown 5-6cm
Spore print color: purplish
Bruising: none evident
my first impression was galerina, but spore print ruled that out. stem (to me) was not psathyrella-ish any suggestions?
(keep in mind this is northern ohio)

i might be self-deluded, but BEFORE i looked at kuo's page for these i looked at these under the scope and said to myself "am i seeing a germ pore or am i just thinking i might be"
maybe alan can tell me if this is a waste of time (meaning with a toy microscope,) or are those germ pores?

apologies in advance for this pic

I see a germ pore. It's right next to the school of minnows and the rainbow

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

seriously. it sucks like trying to open a can with a screwdriver havin a tool just not up for a job.
i've been running through a bunch of keys for the last two hours and still not finding something that satisfies me.
i'm thinking some panaeolis now but it might be lack of sleep. i'm throwin in the towel on this for now. there will be alot of cold evenings soon.

Its not nice to make fun of people with blurry pictures. esp. of those poor little spores. But its easy and fun, n'est-ce-pas?

Uhh, I'm not trying to make fun...just that its kind of hard to make out anything form those photos limiting how much we can help you. I can tell you its not a Panaeolus though, because of the non-mottled gills and the the purple rather than black print.

heh, you SHOULD be making fun, everyone else (me included) is. for once someone was serious! this is a really crap toy scope my kids and i played with so... it was mostly for kicks n grinz i posted it more than seriousness the macro has me stymied enough. if you could look at the mature one and turn it about in your hand like i can, the mottling might not seem so far fetched. it goes through color changes depending on how the light hits
i thought some pans had purple tones? no?
i really need to go to bed lol

No Panaeolus have purplish spores except for foenisecii.
The spores of your mushroom definately have a germ pore though it is not visible in your image.

Thanks Alan,
i think i'm leaning less towards Leratiomyces percevalii as about everything i've found is west coast and researching some of the lesser reported hypholomas since it seems to fit better there than anywhere else.
reasonably sure they're not h.sublaterium, i do see those a lot and got familiar with the pins through decomposed goop on those. I am known to be wrong.
i hope to be better equipped soon
