Bay Area Edibles (and anything nifty) Thread - Fall-winter 2013-2014

A friend, my lady and I went to Aptos the other day to explore the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park. It definitely seem to be a week or two early to see much diversity, but it's clearly been damn for a little while. I hope to return in a week or two. We also went to Sunset Beach to see the ocean and Found what promises to be wonderful habitat later in Mt. Madonna County Park, where I hope to camp the next time I'm over that way.
Pleurotus (these were everywhere, and apart from the turkeytails and other crust and bracket fungi, there was little else to be found on this visit):

Here's what I take for one of the palid Pluteus species, growing from beween the wood and bark of madrone:

Fomitopsis pinicola:

Stereum species?
I have to apologize for the quality and horrible focus of the pictures from my phone. It's a capable enough camera, but I was trying out a new camera app and between not having it's controls down by memory and the glare, I wasn't able to get much to come out. I'll have a few more pics when I get my buddy's photos.

I really need to get the EOS Rebel XT back from Texas, even though the picture quality is a matter of user-error.

A few more of the pictures. It looks like almost none of our photos even half turned out. Last time I bring kiltlifter and sake mushrooming.
Pleurotus and [Daldinia sp?]

Pleurotus or Crepidotus [found both, can't recall] and [Daldinia sp?]:

Phaeolus schweinitzii:

And misc shots:

It really is. I can't wait to go back soon. There ought to be more coming up by now, and I really only had about 10 minutes to spend poking around at the last park, which looked just just perfect bolete and matsu hunting ground.

Hey! I'm down wit da 408 biache! Originally from San Jose. When I lived there I was a fly fisherman and that was my excuse to play in the woods. Seven years ago I moved to Whidbey Island in Washington, which has no trout streams. I actually took up mushroom hunting to fill in the missing element. The Bay Area Ca. is loaded with beautiful parks, forests and public land (and small overlooked trout streams). I'm looking forward to seeing this thread unfold as the season there progresses. I'm sure I'll recognize the terrain and maybe even specific places!

You should look into saltwater flyfishing, if you haven't already.
I'll be back with more of my hunting whenever I can get myself over to the bay, and I hope others will join in posting their forays.

Tes yhey do!!! I'm in Coupeville (Poopville), so I don't keep up on the south end as much as I could. But southern Whidbey DOES have it's heavy Cali influence. As well as a greater use of hardwood chips instead of bark mulch
