Good move. I find tons of Pholiota, Armillaria and Flammulaster. Im pretty confident u got Gymns tho mayn! They are prolific spore producers and you said u had spores on your fingers. The print was rusty brown and u found them off a stump. And theyre bruising green!

Probably G. spectabilis. You are right about them being past their prime though. keep your eye on that same patch of woods for the next week.

well, the good thing about this is it sorta verifies their existance for you. I was starting to wonder. that said, its been a strange fall, no rain for weeks then a deluge, warmer than usual, jet stream breaking up and behaving erratically all summer... i'm interested in documenting when i see the various species start and end and hopefully keep track over time. your posts will be a good resource too

it was by the road by gum. and its raining now. hope springs eternal.
thanks for taking a stab at species. How DO you discern between them microscopically.. if you tell me to go read on bloodworms site i'll understand, i'm being a tad lazy but if you know and its fast and easy....
edit: nm, i remember now its neither
