Detergent Ph Spiking first attempt
    #19065063 - 10/31/13 06:18 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I 24hr soaked a mix of torn cardboard and junk mail in a solution of Arm and Hammer clothing detergent and water. About one full load worth of detergent to 3gals of water. Seems I could have gotten by with less soap so I added a squeeze of Palmolive dish soap...lol

After a couple hour drip dry in a colander I layered the paper and a half court of spawn like you would lasagna, nothing else was added to the substrate.

2 weeks later.

This was my first attempt at a non-active. There is another nice cluster on the opposite side of the tub. These fruits grew out in a day.

Outstanding color!  The technique was pretty cool too.

Yeah, even the mycelium has a nice color. I used a small clear tub so I could watch the process and check for contams that may have survived the pH bath. I recently started a few 5gal buckets with the same spawn run.

Junk mail, I love it.  At least it's good for something.

I agree, nice color on those too!

I think its cool to recycle the phone books no one uses yet get delivered to my door a couple times a year.  Just soak with hot water and layer some grains between the pages and a week or two later you have oysters.

The only junk mail I use are for pizza cupons, guess what topping..lol

I love the color but cannot take credit, EvilMushroom666 provided the culture, along with other goodies, during a sweet trade with me.

Phone books are a great idea Cap. I work part time at locally owned office  supply company and have been collecting printer paper boxs. They hold as much as a 5gal bucket, plus they are free and mycodegradable.
