Help for Intermediate-Level Grower

Hello fellow Shroom Enthusiasts, I am starting a new grow soon, and while I've done a couple in the past using PF Tek, I feel like I've outgrown the basics, and I want to start getting better yields. I have arbitrarily picked out a strain, but I have a few questions on what I should do concerning this next grow. First, should I continue to use substrate cakes, and what sort of substrate should I be moving up to from the BRF and Verm mix? Next, is there any aspect of the fruiting stage that I should change from PF Tek's simple clear plastic chamber set up? Lastly, should I be considering switching species at this point from a basic one to a more difficult and demanding type with higher strength? Please keep in mind, I don't have easy access to manure and I want to keep costs low; I can't afford to go out and buy a lot of fancy equipment or supplies nor would I likely have the skill to work with such things, I'm just looking for the next step up from PF Tek. Any insight at all would be much obliged.
Edit: I'm going to be getting 30ML of spores, not exactly sure what size setup that limits me to.
Second Edit: Thanks so much for all of the help everyone, I decided to go monotub using bird seed for my grain jars. special shout out to Stromrider, whose bulk tek start to finish has become my grow bible for the intermediate stage of my mushroom obsession. Here's a link to it: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18910493

You could spawn brf to coir and verm maybe do trays in a shotgun or do a monotub... coir is cheap You got a lot of options man.

This MonoTub sounds interesting, I have a nearly sterile environment to set up in so contamination isn't any more a concern than usual. Could you elaborate a little on what exactly this method entails?

I checked out the Monotub; seems like its pretty advanced/risky and definitely more than I would feel comfortable taking on myself. I'm really just looking for the next step up from PF Tek.

Its not that complicating and easier then the pf tek and pretty much is the next step. There are other ways but the mono is imo the most simple/effective

The two best investments you can make for this hobbey are a food dehydrator and a pressure cooker. Things probably seem complicated just because you aren't familiar with them. IMO the next step-up after the pf-tek is screlotia. You can find tons of information about them using the search function

this IS the next step up monotubs are actually way easier than pf tek - easier to maintain, no fanning/misting required, so it's much less work and the rewards are exponentially greater!
i know you may not even be trying to grow "bulk" but it's actually easier to do a bulk grow via monotub and end up with more shrooms than you need versus doing pf tek and misting/fanning multiple times a day - which is really hard to maintain if you have a job/school/whatever.

Between these two posts I actually figured it out a lot better, going to try it for sure! What would you recommend as the Substrate?
