The only magic mushrooms you'll find in the woods in Texas are Gymnopilus species, which are yellow-orange to reddish-orange gilled mushrooms growing on dead wood with a rusty brown spore prints. The active ones will usually bruise blue/green, but you can post any suspect mushrooms by taking clear, well lit photos and posting an ID request. We'll be happy to help you ID your finds!

But really, if you're hunting shrooms, you should get out in some cow fields and check old cow pies for blue bruising, dark spored, gilled mushrooms - Psilocybe cubensis and Panaeolus cyanescens. Those are much stronger and more palatable than Gymnopilus mushrooms.

They're out there, pack a lunch and hunt longer.

Non active, blue-bruising, that grow in the woods in east texas? Let's see... I can only think of a few, and they are Boletus species.

Read the rules, buddy:

Quote:

5. Do not make threads or posts discussing or reporting the weather.
This includes complaining about the weather, asking if the current weather is "good for shrooms", or how long to wait after rain fall to go hunting.
As a general rule of thumb, if it has rained within the last 1-10 days, and the temperatures are correct for the type of mushroom you're looking for, and the time of year is correct then it is very likely that the mushroom you are looking for is growing.
