Strange experience with Trich
    #19062772 - 10/31/13 11:02 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

So I had worked for months on a perfect isolate and was finally ready to grow it out. I pasteurized my sub, let it cool, and added my spawn isolate like I always do. I'd still consider myself a noob, but Ive got around 20 successful monotubs under my belt so I have a pretty good grasp on my sterile technique.

About 10 days had passed, substrate was completely white and starting to pin like crazy so I decided to fruit it. Two day later to my disgust I noticed 3 tiny spots of green in different areas of the tub. Not 100% sure if it was trich or some other green mold but it looked like trich. All this work for an isolate ruined before my first flush...or so I thought.

I immediately removed it from my grow room, and was about to take it outside when I said screw this Im going to try to save it. I flame sterilized my scalpel, and cut away the three tiny spots of mold, flame sterilizing each time. The next day I found one more spot the same size and removed it as well. That was two weeks ago, and my 2nd flush is starting to come in with no mold in sight.

I know this wasn't supposed to work, guess I got lucky but Im glad I decided not to dump it because I got 7 oz dry from the first flush.

To any noobs that may be reading this, I do NOT recommend doing what I did. It will likely fail and may contaminate your home for future grows. Hell, I may have contaminated mine...I guess time will tell.

I didn't dunk, I never dunk my tubs though. It still may come back, at this point I'm just happy with the 1 flush.

yeah I mean when you pull 7-8 oz dry off your first flush, that's good news, fuck that mold!

just me, i always tend to make my tubs on the dry side, so if I didn't dunk mine, probably wouldn't have a 2nd flush worth mentioning anyways - gotta make my bulk subs DRY or i get bacteria, maybe it's just my environment here, who knows......

Yeah, My tubs were always on the dry side. But good job at keeping the trich out, i've never been able to do that after it starts... Normally I would finish the flush as much as possible, then toss.

Congrats on a nice ISO, any pics?

I didn't take any from the first flush...had a lot of friends waiting on it and didn't even think about it before I cut them down. I still have a lot of spawn though I'll be sure to take some of my next tub.

Making this thread totally jinxed it, just noticed some more green. :frown:

Trich doesn't affect the fruits... If they grow, you can eat them as long as they're not rotten

Yeah they're still pins though...I think Im just going to toss it, the one good flush was more than I could have hoped for and I really dont want to risk contaminating my house any more than I probably already have.

Are you adding anything to buffer the ph of the substrate? I notice if I leave out the gypsum in my sub or lime out of my casing I tend to get contams early on and I have to throw it after a flush or two

You know I had some shit luck with my last few mono's but I'm thinking its because I'm making the sub 2 wet as well. Was reviewing one of RR's videos and noticed when I do the field capacity test theres a lot more water coming out then what I saw in the video, even though I'm using someone elses tek to the T. Practice practice!
