Found a new hobby, mushrooms rock!
    #19061645 - 10/31/13 03:06 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Frostbrewed here,
I've been a lurker for several months, sponging info off of the experts here. Thanks guys for doing what you do! I'm attempting to get some :mushroom2: growing. I've read through hours of teks and picked a few out that looks promising for me. I had most of the stuff I needed to get started. My wife and I grow a huge garden and actually have three pressure caners for garden vegetables. I use rye during the winter for a bumper crop and I have 23 head of cattle that provide plenty of fresh substrate material every day  I could use some advice on processing fresh manure to get it ready for substrate. The teks on this are few and far between and a little bit vague on the details...... On to my plan; I followed the WBS tek but used out-grow spawn bags instead of jars, (just looked easier) I cleaned out a small closet and nailed it with a ton of Lysol, covered myself head to toe with sterile cover-alls, gloves, etc and inoculated with spore syringe that I got from a Shroomery sponsor, heated the needle of course. I put the three bags in a TiT heated with a aquarium heater to 72 degrees since we keep it about 65 in our house (hot natured  ) It's been 6 days and I haven't seen any growth yet but I know it's a brutal waiting game. If I luck up and get some growth, I plan on using the double tub tek for phase two.
Also Made a alcohol burner out of a pint jar with a wick made out of a 100% cotton wash cloth.

Sorry for the long post, I'm just excited to have found this new hobby. Thanks for reading.

Frostbrewed

:hi: Welcome to our community

Btw you may want to look into using a monotub instead of a dub tub. It is basically the same thing just easier. There is a user on here named FrankHorrigan with a lot of good teks including some on pasteurization. Look him up. I'd provide a link but I'm on my phone

One of you guys put a link to franks tek list for him plz

Hello... You sound like you are off to a great start!

Couple things:
1. Your going to want to get a camera to show us the fruits of your labor.
2. Don't use fresh poop.

Have a great day!

Thanks guys, I will read through Franks thread (I Love the title lol) and I will build a monotub instead of a double.... Update~ I checked  all of my bags before work and had absolutely nothing. I worked a ten hour shift, came home and checked again and had several good size clusters of white fuzz!!! I can't believe how fast this stuff took off! One of the three bags doesn't show any sign of growth whatsoever, it doesn't have as much moisture on the inside of the bag as the other two bags either. I'm not sure what happened with it. I tried my best to do them all the same. I'll give it several more days but if nothing happens, do you think it could be salvageable?... I know there are 1001 opinions to this question but, from the folks who really know, how far along in the colonization should I shake the bags? How many days from now? Approximately how long do I have before I need to spawn to bulk..... I haven't even got my fruiting chamber built yet, Top priority tomorrow (after honey do list of course)

Frank has it figured out  ...Many thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for, and more. Update~ Two bags are spreading like wild fire...Still nothing on bag number 3, hopefully it's just a late bloomer.

I got a $200 order in from outgrow today.  Not including shipping.  25 lb bags of rye berries cost a lot to send. :ooo:  Now I have to see if I can get my agar prepped before I have to go back to work (split shift) Here we go...

Good luck on your grow frostbrewed!

My next big expenditure is definitely going to be a flow hood. Hopefully it won't  set me back too much since I'm going to build it myself

It's important to properly mist the nagging wife ( I use pink moscato) 2-3 times in the evening.

Update~Bags 1 and 2 are spreading by the hour, it's amazing how fast. Bag 3 still has nothing and looks dryer than the others. Would I screw it up if I shot a few cc of sterilized water in the bag to add a little moisture? BTW, I'll try to get some pics soon.
