Gymnopilus ventricosus?
    #19061369 - 10/31/13 01:07 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Habitat: Very densely clustered (some fused at base) on a pine or cypress stump
Gills: Yellow, attached or very slightly decurrent (revealed by cross section; no specimens had opened)
Stipe: Thick, especially in middle. Light yellow. About 4" tall and >1" wide
Cap: Orange-yellow, fibrous in appearance but felt smooth
Spore color: Too young to tell
Bruising: None

Apologies for the crap picture and lighting.

I used these to dye some gray and white yarn, and this is the result (including samples of original yarn for comparison).

G. ventricosus is a very good guess. If you find any mature specimens I would love to see them.
