Can a fruiting monotub be contaminated
    #19061311 - 10/31/13 12:42 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I'm trying to learn myself as much about bulk spawning as I can before I give it a go.

AFAIK cakes once fully colonized are pretty much immune to contamination. Is this right?

I ask about a fruiting monotub being contaminated because I would have to move my operation to a larger area for the tubs, also exposing it to new contaminates in the area. Can I prepare the monotub for colonization and watch it colonize thru saran wrap in a clean enviro, and then move it to the sketchier enviro once I induce fruiting?

Sorry if this is confusing.
Thanks for any help & pointers!

I mean, I wouldn't move my mono into a total shit-hole while it's fruiting, but yeah, your colonized block shouldn't contam before your 1st flush as long as your grain jars were clean & you pasteurized properly.

They are more resistant to contams because something has already colonized it, but not immune.

Sure, but why saran wrap? Doesn't the tub have a lid?

It does not have to be airtight.

Pasteurized bulk substrate material is contam resistant as well.

When we spawn our tubs, it gets done in open air, so there are already millions of contams mixed into it....no need to seal it up...it needs some GE regardless.

Cool. Sorry for the noob question. It's not a shithole, but my basement isn't a place I would sleep or prepare food, put it that way.

Reason for saran wrap was a colored tub. I'll just look for a clear one.

Just so I don't have to make another noob thread: Can someone link me to an informative post on bulk spawn?

I follow Franks series for my monotubs and get fantastic results...

He has a whole series on the process from start to finish. It's good reading...
