P. cyanescens? (ID Please)
    #19060080 - 10/30/13 08:50 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Habitat:
Found growing in a group under a small cedar tree in bark, King County WA.

Gills:
Very dark gills(Brown/blackish), They look attached,

Stem:
4.5 cm height, 4mm, white, Small white hairs on the stem, solid and fibrous.

Cap:
~2cm (some in the patch were much larger), Brown, staining blue/green on some of them, smooth texture, flat cap and some of them were wavy at the edges
Spore print color:
Wouldn't leave a spore print... I left it for quite a few hours and there was nothing. They seem to be old/dry (hasn't rained in a while)

Bruising:
Bruising blue/green both on the cap and stem, especially towards the very top of the stem.

If these are cyans (I hope :mushroom2:) Is there a proper way to pick them? or just pull them out of the ground?
Also, would you recommend drying them?

They sure seem to be. I can't see the bluing in the picture myself, but if it's there and those gills are not rusty but purple brown then they surely are.

I can see the discoloration which probably is the bluing, it just doesn't come across blue in the picture, likely do to the lighting.

do you eat just the cap? stem? whole thing? This is my first find (other than amanita muscaria which I disliked :frown:)

Funny story behind this, I looked under a tree (not expecting to find anything) to tell them where some might be, and found a whole cluster.

P. cyanescens is very potent, and couple of them could very well pull you into a new dimension.

The whole thing. You would certainly get a nice mellow effect from two to four medium small ones fresh, but you would likely want to let them dry and wait to find more.

If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

A couple large ones, sure. If those are as small as I think they are -and granted I'm not sure- they would dry up to much less than a gram.

I wish it was possible to have gyms on that list but potency varies so much. 10 - 15 g. Gymnopilus sp.

It is usually 1/3 the strength of cubes.

Ive read the smaller ones usually pack more potency. Am I wrong guys? Due to raining on them and sun drying the active chemicals out.

That depends. Will you be just as happy to feel slightly psilly and see colors brighter as you will be get a stronger body effect with some decent visuals?

If you can be just as happy either way, then It will be just fine.

A few people get off real good and strong with light doses, but that's likely to be quite a light one by most standards.

There's a bit of contention about why, but that's not likely the reason, or at least not all of it. One theory goes that they stop producing the alkaloids, or stop producing them in as high a quantity per mass gain past a certain point in maturity.

I do remember back in the day getting a nice mellow, but still very nice effect from two of possibly the tiniest baby azures you're ever seen.

The weight is all that matters. I guess aborts may be stronger for some odd reason.
