ok so some of you may recall my thread about my wbs jars that had no growth. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18910674 i put those jars in my garage a while ago and completely forgot about them. I found them yesterday and found contam growth in only the jar that i opened to smell. when i cleaned the jars out the unopened ones still only smelled like WBS. Since there was still some solution in the syringe i nocced up 3 final jars but i noticed that there were black spore clumps. now i know syringes dont need big clumps to have spores but how in the shit did those other jars not grow anything when there were clearly spores in the syringe? any thoughts on this?

from your old post you said you had the spores sitting in the closet for awhile.. they could have gone bad during that time..ive always kept my spores / syringes in the fridge..a few weeks ago i used a syringe that had been in there for 2+ years and still worked fine.
im also unexperienced with using felt as a filter, maybe it is letting out too much of the CO2 and humidity that should be in the jars. im sure it is much more porous than the synthetic filter disc material that most of us are using.
do you see any growth on the 3 new jars you knocked up?
also you could have gotten a bad syringe...or spore print...not sure if you clarified which one you started from. (didnt read all of your last thread as it was 3 pages long)
edit: also whats up with your grain prep? how are you hydrating? what kind are you using?

i just inoculated them monday so nothing quite yet but i have high hopes haha and it was started from a syringe. my prep is nothing special rinse off the WBS until water runs clean, let hydrate for ~24 hours, simmered for a bit, dried them off, put in jars and PCed. I didnt expect you to read all that post haha i was just putting it there to refresh anyone who posted on it before. We generally came to the conclusion it was a bunk syringe but now i noticed the clumps i just couldnt understand how nothing grew in the original 7 jars when theres spores in the syringe and when opened it still smelled like purely WBS
