Paul Stamets theory

I don't necessarily call this his theory it's in Psilocybin Mushrooms of The World. I remember reading a passage saying psilocybes grown on wood in a controlled enviroment tend to be 4 times more potent than wild specimens. Also that in a controlled enviroment they are most times more potent. I see that alot everyone on here doesn't really mention using wood chips at all, and alot of you seem to stick to hay grain dung. Not that I'm knocking anything or anyone here, I'm just wondering why yall don't take this into consideration.

Psilocybe Cubensis are grain-loving mushrooms. They dont grow on wood. Ps. azurescens, Ps. cyanescens are both wood-loving species, which grow on wood. They have a higher psilcybin content than Cubensis per Gram of Weight, thus making them more potent. Cubensis grow fine on Grains or Seeds , but not on wood. Check the faq for more infos.

I?ve read a few things here about wood enriched substrate, most of which were good. The best substrate I ever used included composted wood shavings. You could see the dark brown wood fragments easily in the mix.
This is the best pic I have on-hand, you can see some of it. . .
As far as the controlled environment goes, several factors probably contribute to this. Lack of UV exposure [sunlight] Optimal harvest time I think I remember reading what you describe in either TMC or GGMM. Partially/completely composted wood material mixed with other things creates a great substrate. I doubt that fresh would perform the same [e.g. pet bedding shavings mixed with dung] but I don?t know for sure. . .

Wood enriched substrates is what a afoaf is using. I don't see psilocybes as grain growing mushrooms, I mean this as in look at where wild psilocybes are found, many in forests on trails, many many different climates, element, from around the world, so a mushroom that is only grain loving( I know that other person didn't say only grain) doesn't seem right to me. Not that they don't love grain but wood with the equation sounds more of the evvironment where the species originate.

I don't just mean cubensis I'm talking Psilocybes. Also I don't mean just grwoing on wood alone. I know that dung and region are main factors identifying cubensis, Does everyone use dung in their set up? But they still grow cubensis. I'm not trying to argue I'm just trying to bring up to potency point.

just because not many people don't (type)talk about growing off of wood doesn't mean that they can't grow off of it or that no one is using wood chip, saw dust, ect.....Just like Deanofmean mentioned the B+ race of cubies is promoted as being a wood loving fungus, now one many have problems trying to find a sorce for a wood substrate to grow off of in the first place, in the second place, straw, dung, and grains are easyier for the home mycologist to get a hold of, and could be cheaper also to obtan than wood. if mushrooms in general where not addaptive to enviromental conditions we might not have as many wonderful species of fungus that we do today

i'm not sure if this theory we're talking about was saying that cubes grown with a little wood in the substrate would be more potent (which would be something new and interesting) or just saying that wood loving psilocybin-containing species were more potent (which would be old news).
