Habitat: Park, Seattle, WA. Growing out of the end of a wooden park bench/table.
Gills: Orange/yellow, attached.
Stem: Whitish/Brown
Cap: Yellow to red to orange.
Spores are orange on top of the caps, taking prints now.

Looks like something in the Gymnopilus aeruginosus/luteofolius clade. Do they have any green staining?. Amazing find! I wouldn't eat them just in case that bench is treated with something.

Is it me or do Gyms tend to fruit from treated wood more than other fungi? Seems like every time someone posts a mushroom growing on their deck or something it's a Gym.

I noticed that too but I've also seen Oysters and other fungi. Not as prevalent as Gyms tho.

oysters are said to be capable of breaking down complex hydrocarbons and turn them into usable foods. It would not especially amaze me if they could scavenge the nitrogen from the resins used in engeneered woods either. Could be an interesting hypothesis for experimentation.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

OK, so here are the prints I got off the ones growing on the bench. I have an extra one, so if someone wants it, first person to message me before the end of the night (10/31) tonight with their info gets one.
