Introducing me and what I'm doing

Hi I'm very new to this hobby/obsession . 2 months ago a fully colonized quart of WBS came to me along with some very bad info on what to do with it. Luckily I have the net and found this site corrected some things and spawned to coir/verm and produced fruits. About 60g dry over 5 flushes. I know not a lot but enough for me to make some contamed prints to work with.
this is the 5th and final flush it was better then all the others except the first i think because i was adjusting things on the fly as i learned.

The current print I'm playing with was from a nice specimen on the 2nd flush. Before the veil broke I ceased FAE and put a ziplock bag over it closing it as much as I could.waited for the veil to break and see a few spores on the bag and moved it into my SAB. Clipped the cap of and stuck a pin through a 1/4 pint lid into it.
That went onto a jar of sterilized water and closed it up and waited. I gave it a slight swirl every few hours to help it not get clumpy on the surface. Oh yea there was also a few drops of jet dry in the water.
Then I used 4 10cc syringes filled with water and boiled upright to extract the spore water I had made. They were allready filled so that I could further dilute the spores more and more.hoping that I also was diluting the contams more and could get lucky on a jar.
So I pc 5 pint jars of wbs after a 24 hour soak and a simmer with constant stirring and checking until I saw 1 burst grain. After they cooled I used 1cc from each syringe into 4 jars and the last got 2cc from the most diluted syringe. That was 13 days ago so now your up to speed.
Results so far are: 4 jars show growth with 1 in the lead at about a quarter size spot.
I shook one jar yesterday (not the best looking one) just as an experiment and this morning I see 2 bb sized dots of green so into the pc it went to be destroyed. I will add pics later today.

Now I know I need to get into agar but it will be 3 weeks before I can afford it and the petris. So to occupy my need to play I made up 2 quart jars on there sides with a quarter cup of water and 18.75g of BRF double tyvek on one and tyvek and a single hole lid on the other. Using a 4 " LC needle I put one drop from 2 diff syringes in each and micropore taped a small pc of tyvek over the noc hole.
It's not agar I get that but my theory is : I might get lucky transferring away from any contams in my SAB it's on it's side so the quart jar is kinda a mini SAB in my SAB lol.
Any thoughts or ideas or comments are welcome I am a student of the myc I know nothing except it chose me to study it.

Glad to here that I'm sure once I have some measurable success (and the right tools and materials) I will do things a little easier but until then I shall err on the side of caution.

How can you err on the side of caution when you state that you are working with a contammed print?
That you hope to get lucky by diluting your spore solution.
If you have mold in one jar already, the others might not be far behind.

Yes they probably are but I'm 3 weeks away from agar so I'm just experimenting wich should lead to gaining some knowledge even if it's only identifying different contams lol

I would make more use of your time going through threads and growlogs. Growing contamms are not hard and not worth studying.
Check out http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17231150#17231150
if you want to see some quality contamms.

your just wasting your time man--but I guess its practice lol--but quit playing around and just order a syringe--you seem like a smart fella compared to some uhh uhh MOST of the newbs on here--you'll figure it out though im sure--good luck--

I like the inguinity, and the patience.
You say you're three weeks away from agar?
Why is that?

I understand your point and believe me I read a ton on here everyday ( I think I need eyeglasses now from the small print)
But please correct me if I'm wrong but all prints have some lvl of contams don't they?
And not everyone on here is using agar and they workout ?
And I am 3. Weeks away from the funds for agar and petris

I know a clean syringe would start me off best but I'm more interested in the learning process then the results...the result are sweet though

I just started with agar and I've been here 3 years.
my first experiment. I call it the wine petri!
Started with sponser syringes and made my own syringes from my own prints after. Traded for more prints on the marketplace and made syringes from those too. Proper sterile procedure and patience and it worked out fine.
Agar is cheap if you make it yourself. Frank Horrigan has some recipes in his journal. Search no pour agar if you don't want to wait for petris.

That is a lot of wasted agar.....
How did you plan on getting to that culture I wonder....

I had lots of agar and only 1 sleeve or pre sterilized plates. I got nervous that the agar was not going to solidify and didn't want to risk opening the pack.
I let it solidify overnight and dropped some tissue from a freshly picked PESH. Got growth so i knew I could trust the agar.
I ended up making up 25 dishes last weeks and made an innoc loop from a coat hanger. Transferred myc to 5 dishes and the rest of the myc was transferred to 2 grain jars in my SAB.

Ok first sight of growth in my BRF mini SAB ! 2 specs of white and 2" away 1 spec of green I will be doing my transfer tomorrow morning before the house gets stirred up wish me luck
Second note I realize the white is to small to determine if it's trich or myc yet but I'm transferring anyway with hope

Prints are incredibly frustrating without agar (or similar method). You end up wasting so much grain! One helpful tip with making syringes is to use a very small amount of spores off the print. It's easy to think that more is better... Well with MS its the complete opposite! The less you use, the less contams you will introduce into your syringe. The same theory applies to inoculations!
To check grains for mold, use a very bright light. Often the kernels will have tiny sporulating areas that are easy to miss. Check carefully often, between shakes, etc.

A little update: out of 5 jars I lost 1 to something green.
1 made it to fully colonized and i dunked the grains and spawned them to a mini mono.

Still have these 3 left over.

Super slow colinizing but when i smelled the one i just spawned it was delish! It made my mushroom saliva glads start pumping
Im going to probably just make small cakes with the best 2 and put them in a sgfc.
I made 2 brf "petris" one grew something green and one has no growth at all so i am going to transfer a bit of myc from the slowest jar into there and see what happens.
Im feeling a little more confident in my sterile tech. now that my home made syringes from my homemade print are working.
