ID Request - Cubensis?
#19054117 - 10/29/13 08:31 PM (10 years, 3 months ago) |
|
|
Habitat: Unknown, purchased.
Gills: Dark tan to brown, I would say they're free, as in not really attached. They nearly reach the stem.
Stem: few inches, light/white coloring, looks like it bruises dark brown to black
Cap: an inch and a half or more, also bruises dark, colored tan or golden brown.
Spore print color: unsure of how to take this.
Bruising: dark brown / black, maybe a little bluish bruising.
Other information: smells very earth, dark in the center of the cap.

Those look like dry Armillaria. Cubensis don't have light brown gills, not normally. I think you may have been ripped off.

I bought from a trusted source. Last time I purchased, I'm fairly certain it was these same 'shrooms due to the similarity in looks. The last ones had me tripping balls hard.

I could be wrong, the unnatural lighting doesn't help the situation. I don't think they look like cubensis but I'm no expert on the matter.

I agree, they don't look like cubensis to me. Can you get a picture in better light? Is there any blue bruising visible at all?

Not really any blue bruising... the last batch I got had noticeable blue bruises. One of these has a tiny bit of bruising that looks greenish/blueish.

Those pictures are still taken under a dim light. I can't make out true color with the photos provided. Do you have a bright white light in your bathroom perhaps? Or maybe shine a flashlight on them, then take the photo? Cubensis should show clear signs of bruising, I'm not seeing it with the photos provided.

Cyanescens would not have an annulus (ring around the stem) like that. Are you sure the mushrooms you ate before looked like that? I would not eat those either.

No one really offered any kind of insight, other than "they're not cubes" which I realized a few minutes after posting. It's cool though. I think they're probably cyanenscens, which would explain for the extremely strong trip I had last time.

I can definitely see a resemblance. & ^ came from erowid.

Wow Guys. We have only seen the specimens in the same crappy lighting that made the gills looks sketch.
Aside from the color, They look like cubes to me. The Annulus appears to me as that of a typical cubensis. long and thin. This one just seems to be apressed upward making it look thick and unnatural.
On top of all of this. OP claims to have tripped on them.
Im sure if he took a photo outside during a sunny day or under a different light. we would probably see that it is an active species.
This looks Exactly like a dry cube to me.

But then again, what do I know

Good to hear everything worked out InfernalSavior. I was not comfortable calling them cubensis given the quality of the pictures provided. They may have been the right general shape, but the colors were way off. Next time take photos under natural (or at least bright) light.
Oh, and for future reference, this is an annulus -

I have found TONS of cubes in the wild and these look just like mine after I would dry them. I'm not gonna say for 100% certain that these are cubes, but I will say that I am 99% certain you have cubes.
OP, do you live in the Gulf region? If so, it's possible someone is selling you wild cubes. If not, then you probably got some cultivated cubes that were harvested a little late, but that's just my guess.

I'm not saying my speculation is *likely*, but it is a thing that happens on rare occasion. The fact that you tripped on these mushrooms before is evidence that they are Psilocybes, and overall I think it's likely that they are, but it is not proof positive.

But then again, what do I know
Welcome to the Shroomery InfernalSavior! Haha,

The pics are SO not becoming of the actual mushrooms, with better pics I'm sure everyone might not have gone on the tangent they did. I personally have absolutely zero experience with cubes. But I have heard of people injecting other psychoactive ingredients into mushrooms and passing them off as psilocybes.

That was not nice.
I walked into this thread and you were already made to be upset by what was going on and I should have noticed that.
Don't go away. Stay! I am normally pretty nice.
SHAME on you Ganzig Just playin (sort of). But seriously welcome to the shroomery InfernalSavior. It's been my experience that most shroomerites don't usually behave like this. Must be the moon. Take it with a grain of salt and keep coming back to learn things.

Time to close this thread, methinks.
With the pictures provided there's nothing more we can do but bicker.
