Spawn ready and looking to start a monotub
    #19053715 - 10/29/13 07:16 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I've tried searching these questions, but didn't find any straightforward methods.

What size of tub would I use for 3qts spawn? I ask this, because I am not sure how tall the rubbermaid container should be.

Can I pasteurize my coir and verm using a pot on the stove, or must I use a pressure cooker? If the latter, how many psi's will I need? The tutorial I am following simply says to pour boiling water into a bucket with the coir and verm: http://www.shroomery.org/10858/How-to-do-Coir

Third question, what kind of light should I be using inside the tub, just a simple bulb from around the house?

Thanks.

I have a 40 quart tub that I do 3 quarts spawn & 6-7 quarts sub and it works great.

Sure, most people use their PC cause its the biggest pot they have

Any bulb with a spectrum of 6500 is considered optimal. I use a CFL bulb in a reading lamp from ikea on a 12/12 cycle. Don't have the bulb inside the tub tho, you don't want it overheating things and drying the sub out.

True pasteurization is better.

No light goes in the tub.

The light goes outside, above the tub.

5000k to 7000K (Daylight) is recommended.
