Potential Liberty Cap - ID - Aberdeen
    #19053014 - 10/29/13 05:16 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Hi, I recently collected a few samples and I managed to identify most of them (chanterelles etc.) but I am unsure whether these specimens could be liberty caps which are fairly old? and gone dark causing the apparent dark purplish colour on the whole of the stem (which are fairly wilted)?

Just interested and can't seem to pinpoint a specific species.

Habitat:
Collected from several locations, mostly tuffs of grass on playing fields and lawns.

Gills:
dark purple - , too small to see what attachment.

Stem:
1cm - 2.5cm, 1mm diameter, black/pruple, texture, very thin

Cap:
Diameter - 5mm~, olive/brown darker round the edges, slimyish when found, also there are lines going from the outer edge and stopping between 1/3 - 1/2 way up the cap.

could not obtain spore print, left 3 hours on paper and nothing.

Bruising:
no visible bruising

Other information:
deep earthy-edible mushroom smell

Looks like you've got Mycena and maybe a Hygrocybe conica on the right. Lets see those Chanterelles!

They look like false chants, hope you're one of the lucky ones that doesn't get sick.

Well, tested one on monday and was fine last night so had them all cooked up and I have had no adverse effects. I was concerned about the fact the gills were not connected to the stem (and where "true gills"), made sure they were not jack 0 laterns (the inside flesh was pale, not orange) and they tasted pretty good.

Hopefully no organs fail 2 weeks from now (although I was not aware of any species that looked like that and were deadly).

Or should I be rushing myself to hospital

False chanterelles won't kill you but I wouldn't be so gung-ho!

Oh, I am not. I was genuinely concerned earlier, I thought I had clarified what they were on monday. However everytime I look at a different source it seems to contradict the previous one. So I am not actually sure how to identify them anymore.

Also, sorry to spam this thread with loads of random mushrooms, but any idea about this.

I think this is some kind of amanita? pantherina?

and I have no clue about these?

My university campus seems to be full of mushrooms this last week.

You were able to establish true gills (which I wasn't from the picture) so that instantly rules out chants. Running your finger along the ridges should tell you if they are gills or not.

Those appear to be the goods. That bigger specimen looks like a monster.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
