Popcorn Tek Questions

So I am gonna do a grow using the popcorn tek then casing to verm/spanish moss mix. I started soaking the popcorn about 25 hours ago, I was about to throw it in the pressure cooker to prep it before I put it in the jars and sterilize however I came home to find a bunch of people at my house and simmering the popcorn isnt an option today. So I have a couple questions. Is it okay to let it soak for 48 - 55 hours before simmering it or will this mess the moisture content up/potentially ruin the popcorn?
Should I just take it out of the water and wait to boil it tomorrow?
and when putting it in the jars should I put a layer of verm on top? I hear of people doing this but Im not sure if its beneficial with popcorn or not.

Not even sure you know what casing is.....
Do you mean you are going to mix the grains with the verm/spanish moss, or just layer the mix on top of the grains?

It should be fine, but popcorn is probably the worst grain you could have chosen....

I would leave it soak, and no, grain jars do not get a dry verm layer...the lids should have filters on them.

I meant I am going to colonize the jar with popcorn in it then once fully colonized im going to crumble and case to a verm/spanish moss mix. I am curious as to whether putting a dry layer of verm as a top layer in the popcorn jar before sterlizing is beneficial to a popcorn grow compared to lets say a brf grow

No dry layer its counter productive as you won't be able to shake. I'd suggest spawning to bulk also

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn I'm tired do me a favor

Again, this makes no sense.
No one "cases to" anything in this hobby.
Either you mix the grains evenly with the substrate(spawning), or you apply a casing layer over the colonized, broken up grains(casing).

RogerRabbit said: You guys seriously need to stop referring to your substrate trays as 'casings'. That is an incorrect term unless all you have is a casing layer and no manure, grains, or anything. Nobody grows mushrooms on 'casings', period.
The casing layer is only the top layer on a colonized bulk substrate, nothing else. 'Casing' sure as hell isn't a name for a mushroom growing project. RR

No, it is not beneficial.
BRF cakes do not have filters on the lids, so we use a dry verm layer which acts as a filter.
Grain jars have filters on the lids, making the dry verm layer unnecessary.

I would flash boil the pop corn to keep it from sprouting just heat it real hot is what i mean by that . Popcorn sprouts in like 2 days but the extra soak time after should not hurt or just throw it away an put down more corn today as it is cheap. And sorry people come down so harsh on others when they make typos GOOD LUCK

No one is correcting any typos, but rather big ass voids in the understanding of what certain statements mean.
Just trying to teach dude the right "lingo", and make sure he understands what it means.

If something happens like that, you can soak for 24 hours, then drain well and place in bag in the fridge for a few days or longer. Twist the bag and tie it in a knot to keep the fridge air out. Then you simmer, drain very well and pc sterilize.
If you do fridge it, make sure to drain really good before putting in the bag/fridge, extra water is no good.
To drain any grain really well after soaking and/or simmering, place it in a colander, rinse well under cold water and then drain. Next place a pot lid or plate over the colander and whip out the hidden extra water into the sink. Its like a vigorous shake... believe me extra water gets expelled that normally wouldn't, especially with popcorn.
If you use a smaller grain like millet etc, you can lay a piece of screening inside the colander.
Anyhow, good luck.
