A fake raid meant to educate fifth-graders about drugs ended with a police dog biting a student. The Brazil Times, an Indiana-based news outlet, reports that an 11-year-old boy was treated for “minor injuries” following the bite last week.
An officer and his dog were asked to carry out a “simulated raid” at a Red Ribbon Awareness week event last week. The Red Ribbon campaign is a program organized to promote drug awareness.
A small amount of a drug was placed on one of the students to demonstrate how dogs can find substances. But when a student started fidgeting, the dog bit him on the left calf. The injury was a minor puncture wound.
The mother of the boy who was bit was not too upset, though. “ She asked me what had happened and I explained exactly as I have here in my report. She replied with 'it's OK, accidents happen.' She stated that her son was very tough and everything would be fine,” the officer’s report states.
The dog has been taken out of police service temporarily until veterinarian test results are received.

They do drug raids at schools now? Shouldn't they be doing something useful, like fake lock-downs to prepare for all the school shootings that seem to be happening all the time? Raiding a school for drugs does nothing but potentially ruin young lives.
What a sad, sad world we live in

Fuck the police and their wussy attack dogs. Attacking a child, is there anything less respectable than that?

Considering the size of our penal system I think its a worthy effort of theirs to incorporate the judicial system into public education, kids need to prepare for their future you know. Especially those "ghetto" kids

Wow, that is such a chill woman.
Props to her for not being a total bitch and trying to get money out of it by suing

When I was in high school the police came and did this sort of drug "education" with a dog indicating on my locker as a "hit" so i was pulled from class and interrogated. At this point I had never tried drugs and was a rather upstanding student and athlete. But after a day of police and school educators demanding answers of which i had none I was labeled as some druggie with all kinds of kids now approaching me offering me everything you could think of... close relationships with certain teachers and principals were never the same and it was at this point i began experimenting because i was already suffering the consequences as if i was using...

I'd say the mom is more stupid than chill. If a cop had told me my kid was bit in a simulated drug raid after they "placed" a drug on him, I'd raise hell regardless of how minor the injury.
Not in an attempt to sue, but to get the point across that cops should be held accountable for their actions. Not to mention they don't have the right to bring drugs into school. And then to place them on a kid no less.

No, they only shoot dogs that belong to the piece of shit populace which they are obligated to raid, harass, and steal from. Thats why you can get charged for "assaulting a police officer" if you hurt a police dog as its tackling and mauling you.

I work in a middle school, actually, and I was part of the Red Ribbon week. I've used quite a few drugs, and it was just such a dumb thing. Accomplished absolutely nothing. The whole concept really was to promote the idea that you can have fun without drugs. I was encouraged, actually, that they focused on legal drugs, like caffeine and alcohol. But their parents and the teachers and everyone probably drink alcohol to some extent and definitely drink coffee for the caffeine, so the contradictory information is confusing for those kids. They see one thing and are told another. It's just dumb and poorly executed. It's like we're trying to tell you not to do what you're going to to grow up and do anyway because it's legal. And it's so hypocritical too, because you're telling these kids not to drink alcohol, but alcohol is legal and no one is lobbying to even make it illegal, so with the model that drug laws are based on harmfulness, that doesn't really even make any sense and the kids understand that, to a degree. It's a fucked up situation. I would scrap the program, honestly.
I mean, when I was in high school I wish I didn't start drinking, but no one framed it to me in such a way that I actually had any reason to not to, that i was motivated not to. It was legal and popular, so that's why I did it, and then there was some chick that I wanted to bang who drank alot so it was like "where do I sign?" I mean it doesn't matter how many statistics you throw at them: it doesn't register. I would go in there and tell kids that the drug war is farce, some illegal drugs are safer than legal drugs, it's all bullshit, and you have to make your own goddamn choices without consideration for the law, which isn;t serving your best interests.

ya, i wonder if the parent was informed before hand if their kid was going to be in that situation, seems like something a permission slip would need to be singed for

Fake drugs??? What? LOL
I remember they did this when I was in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade (somewhere in there). They hid a small burlap bag of what I now assume was bud and the dog sniffed it out. Not sure what the educational value of it is, but this was over 20 years ago. Must be a hit if they're still doing it
