Im terrible with money

I buy stupid shit I don't need. I buy shit I know that I will regret buying immediatley after. I have almost no impulse control..
How do I get better with money?
On the topic of money, why are people so godamn unimaginitive with their money? Oh you bought some rims for your car? That's cool. You just spent thousands of dollars on a television? That's cool, I guess.
Any creative people feel me? I would do awesome things with my money. Pay money to a local band to make me a theme song, buy a months supply of twinkies and give em to a homeless person.
Pay to have my face on a billboard.
It seems like to me some people are just hella brainwashed - they've been convinced they need the newest that, the shiniest this thing.
It's a trap, isn't it? Once you get into that lifestyle, I imagine that it's intoxicating.
I don't think I would ever want a woman who was interested in me because of my money. It all seems quite gross.

I suck too. I was always told that money won't go with you when you die so I just spend it without thought. Also I used to have a 2 jobs and make enough to buy stupid shit.. now I'm in school and have no job..
if you got CC cut them up... put all ur money in savings and leave none in your checking so you can't use it without a transfer...
it's been sort of working for me..

Gorlax - yeah I just got a savings account with my bank so a certain portion of my money goes to that now, and it takes a bit of effort to transfer my savings to my chequing account.
Icelander - I am fine for now, I am able to pay my rent. I would say I am annoyed with myself but I find my money issue kind of amusing. But I do want to get better with it.
Sleepwalker: I meant if I was making ALOT of money. Like I had a lot of excess money to spare. I already give to the homeless, more than most people would, but I would give more.
Also, you know, procrastination. It would be cool if I sat down and made a list of cool things I could do with my money. Putting it on my To Do List.

I feel you. When I had a lot of drug hooks and a guy that had almost every prescription drug ever. I pretty much just burned through cash
That case was psychological addiction
Consumerism is essentially psychological addiction
You gotta set aside money for the week and the month. This would be spent on food that isnt from home. Weed. Alc. Coffee etc. Things that go beyond the hemisphere of healthy survival. calculate how much you would spend MAX per week. Then slowly start cutting back

If you really are that bad with money give it to me cause I'm good with it and then you can feel better about the whole mess knowing it's in very good hands.

The best I ever did with my money was when I started keeping a budget and tracking my spending. It gave me clear & concise goals, a visual way to understand my habits and priorities, and was motivating. I would highly suggest that everyone keep a budget and put effort into crafting it.

Haha, yeah. I don't get the frivolous items, like rims and racecar flames. It really drives home the point when you keep a budget and you're looking at how $2k (or whatever rims cost) translates - you can either get rims or pay your bills off a month early and avoid accruing interest.

Yeah I should track my spending. I'm saving up for a vehicle now so I am keeping a good eye on my balance and making sure I don't overspend.
Being organized is probably good in general, it's something I've had to keep working at.

Being organized is a noble goal, and one that keeps eluding me. It's the difference between slacking off & going that extra step. IMO, it shows in everything - quality of life, work, relationships, etc.
There's an app that looks extremely promising in regards to tracking spending and creating graphs & budgets for you (the program is called Mint). The only problem is I'm a little too sketched out by the thought of an application having all my banking info. Plenty of people use it, though. IDK. I checked it out, and created my own Excel workbook to track all my expenditures & goals based on the app. It's undoubtedly more work on my end, but still seems like a good compromise to me when taking my security into consideration. Your bank may also have something similar if you do online banking.

I got better with money when I realised I really don't give two shits about anything other than reducing my workload (I can barely handle a month of it nevermind 40+ fucking years!). Now I put almost all the spare money I get towards not having to work.

Mint is awesome. OP, you could label some envelopes with things like utilities, spending money, emergencies... whatever. and then stick your allotted cash into each envelope. You have to have the willpower to not spend your emergency money on weed though.
Lately I've been reading a lot on investing. Due to inflation, you lose spending power when you have your money sitting around or even in a savings account so it's best to invest your money and let it work for you.
Here's a helpful website

The basis of my success with money and my situation in life now has been mostly do to organization. I'm a very organized person.
