~66 quart tubs. It's not an exact science. The holes don't have to be exactly at the substrate.
Get your tub. Figure out how much substrate and spawn mix you will have. Pour that many quarts of water in your tub. Now you know about where the top of the mix will be. Mark it, dump it, make holes.

Don't use coffee grounds until you have more experience, they are contam prone and even experienced growers have struggle with it.
1 brick coir and 4 qts water makes 8-10 qts, averages abut 9. You will see that 1 quart does not make a big difference in your substrate level.

A pinch of both lime and gypsum would also help.
I use 58 qt tubs myself, mostly cause I get them for almost half price of the 66 qt ones and I'm cheap.
The way I measure where to put my holes on any tub is to place the tub on the ground. I put my hand flat on the side with my pinky on the floor. Right at the highest point (your first thumb knuckle) should be just about the right height for the bottom of your hole to touch.

The first time I made a monotub, I just waited till I fruited it to drill the holes. That way I knew that when I used it again with the same tek the holes would be in the right place.

I know, right
I think the name should be changed to Damian's 50/50 because that's the success rate.

I've actually had a better success rate than that with the bucket tek. Out of probably 8 or 10 tubs I only lost 1. I been pasteurizing using franks tek lately though. I want to be good at it for when I go to use poo here soon

I've lost like 3 out of 9 tubs to bucket tek. I've since spawned three tubs using pasteurization as per franks tek in ziplock bags and I haven't looked back. I'm trying to dial in my stove as I've had issues having to adjust the heat with it either climbing to fast and having to use ice cubes or climbing to slow or even dipping and having to turn back on but either way reaching between 140 and 160 for at least an hour. I have one tub producing pins ATM and the two others are almost fully colonized. I wish I could get away with bucket tek as it's so much less time consuming, but not worth the possibility of contaming IMO. I know many people that have claimed to have a 100% success rate with bucket tek. I'm throwing around the idea of trying the bucket tek again in the future and spawning in front of my flowhood. However I think any contams might even come from the coir and/or Verm itself.

But basically I'm just looking forward to getting my pasteurization down to where its second nature and I'll just stick with that. Love it with bags

I use bucket tek all the time, I lost 5 tubs (before first flush) out of a total of 36 over the year and I'm pretty sure that was due to old spawn and slower colonization. I've seen plants germinate in my tubs, and I've also found out that not all coir is equal. Just my 2 cents. YMMV.
As for the holes in my monos, I hate having them at substrate level. I like having them up about an inch or and inch and a half because the shrooms are less likely to grow into the polyfill or out through the holes while seeking fresh air. With the holes at substrate level sometimes I still get problems with the sub drying out a little bit near the hole.
Positive vibes.

I've always wondered if the not all coir is equal thing has something to do with why the bucket tek works for some but not all

Yeah id imagine if one were to use trich infused coir with the bucket tek, they would have a higher.chance of failure.

In some houses bucket tek would work perfectly all the time while in another house everytime a bucket tek would be a total failure. I think this could be a number of different things for example moldy houses with carpet and shit is much more likely to fail than a clean house with tiles on the floor which is easy to clean. In my previous house everything was clean and cleanable and i always got away with bucket tek without a contam, even with very low spawnrate. Now i live in a moldy house with moldy carpet and even if i properly pasteurize sometimes i still get mold on my bulk with high spawn ratio as well. I had to learn the hard way that proper pasteurisation is a must.
