What drug does toyota put into their cars?
    #19050805 - 10/29/13 07:28 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I drive over 30k miles a year and tend to notice certain things about how people drive and such.  It never ceases to amaze me that whenever someone is going well under the speed limit, left lane hogging, sitting at a green, accelerating like there's an egg under the pedal, or exhibiting just about any dopey driving trait whatsoever, it's almost guaranteed that they're driving a Toyota(or old and in a buick, panther platform, gm a-body, or caddy but that's understandable).  It's a bloody epidemic!  The obamadope prius drivers are the worse of course, with the camry and corolla drivers not far behind.  But it seems like a very high percentage of those driving a non-sporting Toyota or lexus are terrible drivers of the passive ilk(contrast with the high number of aggressive lower end bmw and audi drivers).

This observance has proven so common, that i almost believe that they're slowly releasing a sedative drug through the vents.  Seriously though, what the deviled egg is it about buying a non-sporting Toyota that makes one become an absolute dope behind the wheel?  Of course not all Toyota drivers are bad drivers, and not all bad drivers have Toyotas but the number that do is shockingly large.

I know that i cannot be the only one who notices this.  The question is, does buying a Toyota make one a bad driver or do bad drivers just have this unshakable attraction to them?  I know that i cant be the only one who notices this so i'm interested in hearing your perspective.

It's the people that drive them.

Just like every time I pass by a 10+ year old Honda Civic with outlandish rims, mods worth more than car, and horrendous bass, I know its someone under 25 with a low paying job and an affinity for "Fast and the Furious" movies.

Certain people choose certain cars.

Is it really the drivers of priuses or are you just one of those people that make fun of priuses all the time?

I'm thinking of trading in my Prius for a TDI clean diesal vw. http://web.vw.com/tdi-clean-diesel-and-hybrid/

I test drove one the other day and I have to say it was much better driving than the Prius. I could actually cruise at 80mph while still getting 45 mpg.

I think its rather narrow minded to categorize an entire group of people based off of a handful of experiences.
If you don't like the way someone is driving just go around?

I have to admit I do see some people driving 55 in a 65 with their hybrids and it annoys me to all hell.

The other day though I did see a Prius from Texas fly by me on highway and I was going like 75. It almost defeats the purpose of trying to conserve fuel

For one thing the drivers who don't annoy you are unmemorable. The memorable annoying drivers reflect the broader group of people the car appeals to. In the case of Toyotas, a lot of the time those seem to be people who want reliable unadventurous transportation. Personally I'd rather be around drivers like that most of the time over the ones who see public roadways as a place to live out some videogame fantasy.

Diesel's the way to go. Only concern (if you're in the states) is the current cost ($3.65 ish in Jersey right now) being more than gas ($3.09 now) and it usually being subject to big price hikes. But the amount of increased mileage you get definitely balances it out.
I'd very much like a diesel car, my V6 Pontiac gets 10-25 mpg, it's horrific.

Hell yeah man. Gas up in mass is averaging about 3.30-3.38 ish. Diesal a few cents more. I feel the added performance / mileage would definitely even things out :awesomenod:

Both.  Yes i strongly dislike the prius, but my observations are removed from bias.

A handful of experiences?  I drive over 30k miles a year and not one single day goes by without a toyotadope encounter.  Again, not all Toyota drivers are like this but a striking amount in non-sporting Toyotas are.  And you often cant "just go around" .

Most assuredly. IDK how much the ones you're looking at cost, but are they more than the same car with a gas engine?
Cause I know that, for example, if you wanted a F-250, one with the Powerstroke Diesel engine is like $8k more, base price. At least 3 years ago when I was lookin at 'em

I also forgot to mention, my grandma has a Camry. She drives at the pace of an aging tortoise with advanced rigamortis. And she lives in NYC. It is especially torturous driving with her there. Whether or not she clogs the left lane like the rest of the New York douchebags is something I cannot say as I haven't been on the highway with her. But I doubt it. Pretty sure she has a 45mph speed limiter on the fucking thing:lol:

I'm looking at 20-22k. If I trade in I can get 3k off so that's good and this is for a 2014.
