Yeah your DAW is really just interface preference and what your workflow is going towards.
It's all about those VSTs really. I bought NI's Reaktor about 6 months back and I've been loving it. A really awesome free VST to check out is Kamiooka. I use it in a lot of my songs actually and it rivals some of the VSTs I've paid for.
When you buy Ableton Studio though you get hooked up fat with all the free packs they are constantly releasing on their website containing synths and samples.

Yeah but Reason isn't technically a DAW.
I actually started with Reason and am so glad I made the switch to Ableton.
I wouldn't consider picking up Reason again unless I intended to rewire it. But with Csound~ inside of Max4Live inside of Ableton; and the new Reaktor's modular system I have no need for Reason

NI is the shit, one day I'm gonna purchase every plugin they have can't afford yet.
I love FL Studio, when you buy it, you'll get free updates for life.. Plus it's just so easy to work with it. Been using it since the version 3.5.6 came out(roughly 10 years)
Logic on the other hand, while it's nice, I just don't see myself using it too much. I'm thinking of starting to study Cubase, lotsa friends use it..

I should switch to Ableton, I have it and the whole NI pack but can't get motivated to learn it because i'm lazy and I can move so fast with Reason after using it for like 6 years. Honestly the whole plethora of VST's out there overwhelms me

I'm going to eventually get Cubase because I'm a Windows user and doing surround sound in Ableton is a serious bitch.
Logic has some serious advantages over other DAWs. They all have their advantages though.
For my needs, Ableton is supreme. Incorporating the production into live shows is just so fluid.
I'm tempted to try Bitwig though. Group of Ableton employees split off and made their own DAW.
I'll probably buy Renoise at some point too just because it's so cheap and I've never used a legit tracker.

Yeah there's so many VST's/VSTi's out there, I used to "collect" them
VST/VSTi's that I mainly use atm include NI stuff, Sylenth, Z3ta+, and some Image-Line synths(FL Studio native stuff), Waves Diamond Bundle is usually where I go to when I need any kinda FX

Check out all of the Sonnox and Waves VSTs. Those are some of the highest quality (and most expensive) ones you can get. Waves in particular; though I prefer the Sonnox limiter.
Also Ozone 5 is an amazing Mastering VST. It can really polish off your tracks nicely. Sometimes it's so fun that you forget you're mastering and start messing with your track more than intended...
Aaaand Fabfilter's ProQ EQ is top notch. I also use the Fabfilter Twin 2 synthesizer. I really like their interfaces.

Yea I've got Waves Diamond Bundle, been using Waves plugins for years
I really don't mess with mastering plugins too much, for gigs I just make sure the final mix of the track won't clip, leave at least 2.0 db headroom and use L3 Multimaximizer to boost the overall volume
When it comes to mastering, I leave that for pros.. Plus, I really wouldn't even want to be mastering my own music, IMO it's better to have a whole different pair of ears doing that, considering that I've already spent countless hrs making the track
Shit, I really need to start checking for new plugins, thanks for the heads up on the fabfilter stuff, I know I've got some of their stuff, just not installed
Off to school, laterz!

Good morning all. And congrats on your post count
I'm just getting up. Feelin tired but I'm awake anyways. Don't really have anything I need to do today other than Aikido class in the evening. I'd like to repot some of my cacti, but I have no cactus soil and not sure if I feel like driving anywhere to get some since I can always grab some at work tomorrow.
Yeah just chillin. I'll probably smoke a bit of weed this morning, but gotta stay sober the rest of the day for class. Then I'll smoke up after. Probably go get something delicious for lunch later and take a nap before class.
