it doesn't matter, as long as you are aware.

It depends on what your goal for meditating is. With beginning, have a relaxed jaw and tongue.
Your entire body should be relaxed; but keep your spine ever so slightly tensed on the lower section of your torso so you can keep it aligned. Tuck your chin the tiniest bit to align your skull with your spine.
Posture isn't the focus of meditation though.
The key is equanimity.
When thoughts arise and pass away, do not react to them. You cannot directly stop the thoughts that your brain produces; but you can train yourself to no longer entertain them. Eventually you will be able to detach from your thoughts and see them as an observer who chooses not to participate.
The key is to simply observe sensation. Do not judge the sensations you are experiencing. Whether it is a pleasant warmth encompassing your being; or a painful soreness in your folded legs; do not intellectualize these experiences with craving or aversion. Simply experience sensation without reacting in any form. If you're diligent you may get a glimpse into the depths of your consciousness you never thought were. It's usually best to start with the physical sensation of your breath passing in and out of your nostrils. Like the constant of the universe; our breathe is in a constant state of change. Arising and passing away; arising and passing away.

Breath by inflating your stomach, not your chest. Breath only through the nose if possible.

Failure to repeat steps 1&2 may result in death.

breathe in to the count of 7, exhale to the count of 3.
play relaxing music
lay down
try to relax each part of your body
and try to clear your mind of thoughts, just breathing
rain serenade - natural snow buildings

I find the most comfortable way for me is with my teeth mostly closed, but just a relaxed gap and with my tongue pushed up lightly against the roof of my mouth- helps prevent saliva build up which is distracting because you have to swallow. I breath in and out through my nose trying to focus my attention on the sensation of the air flowing in and out of my nose.

Mostly toward the front teeth and top of mouth. Not so much the back.

There's not just one way to meditate and you don't have to be cross-legged on the floor with your palms up and boring music playing. It's a state of mind not an act

Be aware of your breath but do not force it, dont change its rythm. Let it flow in and out and turn your focus to every little nuance it has. Let it slow your thoughts and slide your focus back to your breath everytime you get swept away in them. The object isnt to eliminate them, theyll always be there, on the edges, threatning to break your focus. The object is to learn to how to let them pass without clinging onto them. Posture helps your breath, but really isnt that important, you dont have to chant some bullshit mantra or listen to Alan watts mental fuckery while you meditate either. Your trying to cultivate a deep focus and ever present awareness both of your mind and your surroundings. It takes time, but when you get there youll know. Its also not going to give you anything but a sharp and focused mind. Anyone that says otherwise is full of shit.
