Greenish hue on BRF Bag first attempt, still ok? (pics)
    #17783349 - 02/11/13 01:44 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

So I've got a sterilized BRF substrate bag inoculated with Thai Lipa Yai and it has just (in the last day or 2) taken on a slight green hue, otherwise everything looks healthy. Is this a contam/dangerous? Should I still birth this cake and see if it produces? Do I need to trash it? I took it out of my casing chamber and tossed it in the fridge to see if I could start some pinning, it's about fully cased anyway. Any help is much appreciated as this is my first attempt, thank you!

Mold. Toss it without opening to avoid spreading spores all over your house.

Did it undergo any environment changes before that showed up? I can't tell if that's green or blue.

No real environment changes, my incubator goes between about 79 and 83 degrees between day and night but I didn't think that was much of a factor. I have 4 other bags (1 more Lipa Yai and 3 younger Creepers) and I don't want to see this happen again! It definitely looked more green in person so I took thiotimoline's advice and trashed that bag. It was a shame since that was my most mature one and it was so close to birthing. Let me know if you have any idea why this might have happened so I can avoid it in the future.

Before you just chuck shit, sometimes it can be worth it to isolate it. If it was honestly green though, there wasn't much you could do. We need RR to become a biochemist, then he could cook us up some trich killer 3000.

Anywho, some people fight it and win. 8D I wouldn't try unless I was desperate.

I love this.... I had that type of 'mold' for the last 2 weeks or so, and everything was slow.. I then introduced fae to the bag an not only are the green things going away, the bottom is now fully colonized, in only 2 days i woke this morning to see that the previously stalled ones actually picked up teremdously and will give a good harvest i think. This is my first time w/ bags so i could be wrong. any one else have these problems..

I really can't tell if that's mold or bruising. You should wait a make sure the colored sections grow and turn a distinct green. That would be a sign of mold.

The thing is, the coloration seems to be apparent on pressure points touching the bag. That might suggest bruising.
