re-hydration of a print
    #1904308 - 09/11/03 04:45 AM (20 years, 6 months ago)

I have a few old prints/partial prints that i'd like to be able to culture again, but don't wont to make a syring due to the fact that they allways become contaminated, so i guess that i have a couple of dirty prints, thus i'll be using agar, so how should i go about rehydrate the spores for use on agar?

I don't believe there's a need to rehydrate them. The spores will rehydrate when they are deposited on the (moist) agar.

But, if your prints are 'dirty' (I understand that you suspect the prints cause the contaminations when you make spore prints from them), the agar cultures will also get contaminated. The prints must be 100% contam-free.

the prints don't have to be "100% contam-free".
You can germinate them on agar then transfer some myceliun to
agar that has peroxide or anti-biotics mixed with it.
Or germinate on cardboard and transfer to agar that has peroxide or anti-biotics mixed with it.

Precisely. That's the whole point of working with agar. The cultivator is able to extract a clean mycelial sample from a contaminated culture.

yeah, i do have some anti-biotic agar from Fungi Perfecti, contams like it just as much as the other M.E.A. from FP, but i really do like working with the agar dishes to get around the contams.
I have heard that cardboard is very selective to what will grow on it, has it worked for you?
