Shoot I got all excited because I thought this thread included books and I was gonna say A Scanner Darkly.
I'd recommend the movie too, but that's not really old enough to be considered a classic.

Late 70's or early 80's era cult classics were some of the best. Craven, Cronenberg, R. Scott, and Carpenter
The Thing, They Live, Alien, Scanners

Return of the Living Dead is awesome. That's a bit more of a black comedy, but still such fun to watch around Halloween.
OP, there have been a ton of excellent suggestions. Creepshow is pretty cool, I think I'll watch that soon. Also, to whoever posted about Carnival of Souls, here's a pretty trippy video you might enjoy with one of my favorite songs ever over footage of it.
If you want to delve a bit deeper and get into something a bit more obscure, I'd suggest Italian horror. Argento's Suspiria would be a good start. It has such beautiful images and the sound design is so far out.

spoiler alert
i didnt get event horizon, how come the original crew all went psycho crazy at the same time, but the rescue crew kinda went crazy one at a time
is it because the records for the original crew was taken when they were in the other dimension?

The original crew went to a different dimension; A dimension of "pure chaos" is what one of them called it I think. When the Event Horizon came back to our dimension it brought "something" back with it from the crazy dimension.

that totally missed my question that was why the orginal crew was haveing a total sado maso orgy at the same time, but the rescue crew seemed to go cray cray one at a time
edit: actually maybe it did

The 13th Floor is a good sci-fi flick.
