2013 Honda Rebel

I've been thinking about getting one of these for some time now. This will be my first bike, basically I'm looking for something simple and straight forward. From what I've read the rebel is one of the most reliable bikes around. $4,100 brand new, 84 mpg, can't beat that right? And it looks sexy as fuck IMO, I'll be going for the black instead of red though.
I've done some reading and I guess some people think that 250cc is under powered. I don't really plan on driving on the highways with it anyway, I'm sure I could though, I've read they can cruise at 75 no problem.
Anyway....any bike people around here that know a thing or two and want to throw your 2 cents in?

the lack of hp increases the reliability.
its not for me, but if you live in a semi non crowded area what you got to loose?
if you live in southern california... dont ride a bike..

Yeah I live in a rural area so it'd be nice for riding around town and stuff. I figure I can upgrade to something a bit more powerful later on if I'm feeling it.

your always going to outgrow the speed of your first bike.. specially once your 2 wheel speed tolerance builds up and you get comfortable.
but for a first bike, why not.

That seems like a good bike. I've been wanting to get my first one for a while too. Was thinking of just getting a kawasaki ninja, but I like this one now

Right on
Mind commenting on the difficulty of learning to ride? Someone told me if you can ride a bike and drive stick you pick it up pretty quick, any truth to that?

Dont get a 250 you will regret it down the road because of hp u can get hd iron sportster for under 8k new or a used one less than that im a sport bike fan myself but i also got alot of pins, plates, and screws from them
Although it would be a good bike to learn to ride on just plan on getting bored and wanting to move up rather quickly

that being said i drive stick daily and have for my entire driving life im 30 now..
as for picking it up.. just like anything.. take some classes, dont let your dbag neighbor that doesnt own a bike teach ya how to ride and pay attention to whats around you.
thats a tougher question to answer than i had thought

Hmmm yeah I can see what you're saying. It's not like I'm buying it tomorrow though; I've got time to mull it over.
Thanks for the input

First bike I rode was a GSX-R 1000, and wrecked it about 1/2 hour later. So yeah, go small on the first bike.

As for difficulty riding, did you take the certification riding class?
I got a pretty good feel for riding in that one weekend course, and I can't drive manual.
Only fell over with the bike one time It was actually a really fun class was mostly riding time, and my instructors were all badass awesome guys.

Not yet, but I'm going to pretty soon.
I've been driving manual forever so hopefully that helps. And that sounds cool, hopefully the classes around here are just as good.

Well, it was a GSXR1000 owned by a friend. He had dropped it in grass doing about 100mph running from the cops the weekend before.
The thing had a giant crack in the frame, and also the front brake didn't work, and I was the unfortunate person to find out that the throttle stuck.
Anyway, I rode it around the neighborhood a few times without issue. Then I went out for another spin, and the throttle stuck. I got up to about 40-50mph in about 30 yards and hit a parked car. Vaulted over the hood but somehow walked away from it. Had a giant bruise on my leg and my shoulder was really fucked up for over 6 months.
Cops came, DUI tested me and shit. I was sober except for a giant line of molly right before getting on the bike. Didn't go to jail.
I suppose the moral of the story is: don't ride 1000cc bikes when you have no idea what you're doing

There are much better 250 cruisers out there and you still dont want them anyway. I have one due to money and restrictions in my country. There alright but they really dont have enough top speed and run real high revs on the freeway. The rebel isnt even a vtwin ahah.
