Is the pursuit of money a legitimate spiritual state?
Which is to say, is it part of our soul's journey to accumulate money and social status and collect material items?
The people that say the world is a game, or life is a game.
I'm wondering how legitimate the pursuit of money is. It seems kind of silly to me but part of me wants to make a lot of money- I dont know if i've been brainwashed or if this is what we are meant to do.

There's no such thing as a "legitimate spiritual state" IMO. Those who claim to experience one are just

I agree with what the Samurai says there is no Legit spiritual state that's a personal thing.
IMO if you want to make alot of money go for it we are not meant to do anything. If you want a roof over your head to see you through the the cold winters night aswel, food to put in your stomach amongst other basic necessities you need some money unless you have a reliable source to freeload off.
Beyond that it come into play the works of money management and investment , i know people who have been working for 5 years longer than me and have less to show for it because they couldn't help but spending 300 dollars on a bar tab every other weekend or some bullshit got to do with a girlfriend that had their balls in a vice.
I don't know what your opportunities are like but people who legitimately know how to make lots money rarely break their back for it, you can work for someone else all your life and also survive but those condition's are becoming tougher these days as company policies progressively are changing to do 'more with less' so to speak.
After you gain enough of the initial capital there are ways to make the money work for you such as investing in properties and renting them out to people , which essentially means you have more free time whilst still retaining an income.
Its subjective how much money you want/need based on what its for and your plans with it.

Of course people have the desire to acquire power or status, it is only natural. Hell, what is an alpha male?
Alphas come in different forms during our wonderful industrial age.
Though I don't think everyone seeks status; other people seek to fulfill stimulus or spiritual needs as well.

Spiritual is an empty word IMO. I think money is a great reason to live if you can't find any others

I don't. I have money and outside of what money can be used on it does not bring any relief.

If I won the lottery, first thing I would buy (after paying off all the bills & getting a house), would be this:

I still wouldn't be intrinsically happy, but damn... I'd have a hell of a lot more fun when I drive through the country to unwind.

Well I do get a lot of pleasure out of my money much of the time. And it affords me almost total free time.

I had a friend with a very expensive show car. He was afraid to park it anywhere for fear of it getting scratched or broken into or stolen.
BTW, here is my ride:

spiritual - is a kind of idea about reality, that there is a spirit which learns and grows from our experiences in the material world

you think an intelligent species would have any worthy reflections regarding material society?
i wouldn't be taking orders from intelligence based on material awareness.
for real, people just want to feed their children. if they didn't fuck and reproduce, they wouldn't be running the rat race. the money is evil and so is the desire to obtain it. yet it is necessary to live. go figure. somebody is playin you for a fool.
