Can a guy get an ID?

It was growing in a Hemlock forest about 4000' from what was likely dead hemlock.
Either way the wood was really decayed.
Spore print white.
All other info should be self apparent.
If it is not let me know.
Cheers.

Maybe Gymnopus acervatus?
-------------------- Favorite quote: I want to know if they are active and magic or not. And if they are not active, can i pick them before they are active and then they will become active or do they have to grow till they activate?

That looks really close.
This is the season of Gymnopus for me. Perhaps it is a sign I should study them.

Flammulina velutipes? Growing on Hemlock you say? Any other tree species in area?
Actually yeah Gymnopus acervatus is a way better ID for those. Good call.

I don't think F. velutipes is correct. I thought Flammulina at first as well.
But not velutipes.
There were hedgehog, chanterelles, winter chants, gypsy mushroom, matsutake many suillus, and many many more in the immediate area.

It was not too bitter.
I read that it can be mild or bitter on mushroom expert.
