Intuition/trial error/common sence worked well for me when finding a way to dunk cakes.

I suggest using dinner plates

Yeah just find a plate that is heavy enough and large enough, simple as that

Just use common sense. It's your best bet. If you have gotten this far then I got faith you'll figure out something to hold them under water

You don't need to use the fridge

If you can't find a plate, use a frisbee and weight it down with something in the middle (small rock, whatever)

I used to use a plate and recycled milk jug filled with water, Water level can be adjusted to hold down cakes but not smash em on bottom of bucket  as remaining air in jug controls submersion depth... Use your imagination as anything with weight will work...
