Pluteus on a pine cone?

Hoping to have a new camera soon, but in the meantime I'm forced to post my crap photos of this interesting Pluteus. I've never found one on a cone before and thought you guys would like to see it. I was trying to bend the cap slightly to see what the underside looked like and the cap snapped off.
I've never found them on anything other than stumps, branches or logs, so to me this is a really unusual find. But I'm wondering if it is really unusual?
Conditions have been pretty dry for 4 weeks. We found several pluteus that day, and all were much smaller than I'm used to finding.

Neat Pluteus. I have never seen them on a cone either.

I love fungi on cones.
I want a photo collection of just that with many species to put on my wall.

Yes. I try to catalog & preserve everything I find. Sometimes my discipline slips, but when I find something cool like this it's easier to stay on track.

I bought a used Cannon G9. For a point and shoot, it is decent in macro, at least much better than my current camera. I got it for $152.

Thanks, Alan. Lots going on around here right now. A friend sent me an email pic of a beautiful Coccora, so I'm going to try to head out later today.
Here's another that I think is Pluteus, although I didn't think this when I found it. I was really surprised when it started dropping pinkish spores. After 24 hrs under a glass without a print, I decided to try putting it in the fridge, and in a couple of hours I noticed spores dropping.
It was growing on a rotted stump, most likely conifer. We left the larger one alone so we could see how it looked at maturity.

That is Pluteus petasatus also.
Sounds like you got a great camera at a great price....Unless the lens is full of dust.
I recommend carrying it in either a carrying case or a brand new ziplock bag. Also get a little tripod for it, like a gorillapod or something. And maybe a bean bag also.
A full size tripod would be a good idea in addition...
