If you have a decent component setup the bass wont overpower the music. Most of the kids who throw systems in their car have no idea what they are doing, there is A LOT more to it then wiring up some subs and an amp.
I love my system, its a good clean install and sounds great. Yes it can be heard from blocks away but i keep that for the competitions. I always lower my volume at redlights and around residential areas. These stupid kids giving us bass heads a bad name.

I love subs/bass/loud music. I love being able to feel my music, but if you put two L7 15's in your car you need to upgrade your regular speakers as well so you can hear the music.
Honestly whenever I had my subs I turned it up loud all the time, idgaf if someone finds it annoying, they only have to deal with it for 15 seconds anyways.
What I really find annoying are loud Harleys, now that shit is loud and its an annoying sound, back when I lived in the city Harleys used to wake me up out of a dead sleep, subs didn't do that.

Right...cause it only matters at red lights since that's the only place they can actually have a chance to identify that you're the one being a douche...while you're driving down the road, it's okay to be a douche because you're gone before they can identify you.

The problem with people and their car subs is they turn the bass far too loud in comparison to the treble....its just retarded you cant hear any of the music.......when the subs are at the proper settings they are the tits.
As far as the douchiness of the matter, well most people on the road drive like crazy assholes so I really don't mind hearing a rattling nig-mobile from time to time.

Playing loud music on the road isn't only affecting others on the road, however...It affects those living on those roads as well.
As far as balancing the mids and highs, they never do that. They don't really want to. They want to turn every song into some dance mix and completely lose the vocals.

I like my music loud, too...but I don't want to hear your music even at low levels...
That's why playing music too loud is discourteous. No one likes your shitty music but you...just like no one likes my shitty music but me.

Just got back from running errands, seemed a made a little shit spark from the old shit flint.
I love stirring the pot
As far as the installation argument goes, I somewhat abide because its more tolerable hearing just bass instead of bass+car frame. I think some may have took me the wrong way, If you keep your subs/bass at a respectable level during the day and early night its fine, Do as you please but its the people that ride through quiet residential neighborhoods with their subs so loud my entire house vibrates. That shits enrages me. and I too found subs cool..when I was in highschool, it was when I grew up and realized that its a useless and frankly, quite bothersome addition to a car; But then again many people claim I can be a bitter asshole.

There are plenty of things that I don't like that I have to encounter on a daily basis. It's really not that big a deal.

 This can't be true!
OP, I'm sorry my friend, but I can't agree with you on this one. I love bass heavy tracks. Especially if it's on a good sound system. And I agree with everyone else saying that people who only tune the bass up are totally obnoxious. I mean, please. How can that possibly be enjoyable? Everytime I get into a car at work, I mess with the sound settings, and it's like 9 times out of 10, the bass is at 10 and the mids and treble are way too low. Do people just have really terrible hearing, or what? Balanced sound is so much better, me thinks.

Oh you misunderstood me sir, I absolutely love bass. Bass moves my soul, but obnoxious subs do not. Maybe I have this disposition towards subs because I have never heard any that were properly calibrated/balanced with everything else.

Oh, my apologies. I did misunderstand. I'm in total agreement with you then. I try not to overdo it if I'm listening to something bass heavy, but what can I say, I need to feel the bass. As John Lydon once said, "WE NEED MORE BASS." I'm very fortunate though, the car I drive has an excellent sound system, so it's hard to help myself sometimes. I do check the windows though as I'm listening, and once I see those trembling, I know I've gone too far, and bring it down a notch.

And I dont know how the statement that I dont care for obnoxious subwoofers turns into I dont like bass or something. The genres I listen to the most are Electronic and Rap lol. Only good electronic and only good rap though.
I hate music that makes me feel stupid.
But them internetz cause a lot of things to be misunderstood because of the lack of tone of voice.
Nothing but love from me, my rants are never meant to offend
