dry rye jars during colonization
    #19043599 - 10/28/13 12:19 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Ive got 21 rye jars, inoculated 14 days ago with multi spore sclerotia, it seems like my grain is drying out and the myc is slowing down, i live in a really dry climate. any tips or pointers on increasing the water in my jars???

Begin with more water

Jokes.

What would you say the percentage of colonization is?

Could it be caused by a co2 Stal rather than a lack of moisture?

Are there pins beginning to form? As I believe I've read that once the mycellium runs out of food, it begins to fruit. Although It contradicts ones fruiting via FAE

Did you shake the jars?  From what I've read about the sclerotia producing types is it can be hit and miss when shaken.  A lot of people say it's best not to shake them, some say it's alright, others have had mixed feelings about it.  Based on what I read on Stonesuns grows I would not shake them...  ik waiting is hard but that's the name of the game... especially with truffles.  If u shook them oh well.

Shit.. remember...

I know nothing about this species, or what im talking about.

But perhaps you could start a pot of tea, in the kettle, and once its boiling hard, the steam from the water boiling directed into teh jar, but too close would be very warm :/

Other than that, I have no clue.

Cut your loses, open the container, make sure you remove all uncolonized materials, and fruit?

I wouldn't open a jar yet but that's just me...  and if you did, maybe just one to see how the smell is.  Since it takes nearly 2 to three months just to get the desired amount of sclerotia, I would wait it out.  Your call though.
