well while on my break i was walking around the garden center of wal-mart (where i work) and looked in the cactus section cause who knows i might get lucky again and find a san pedro, peruvian torch ,or Bolivian torch and behold i think i found a san pedro.
here are some pics a pic of the top

one with my hand

and the price but i got a employee discount

this awesome cactus looks like all the other san pedros I've seen and i am almost 100% sure that it is one ,but jut want too make sure and even if its not i still like it.
* a note i won't be back on the boards until about 8pm est cause just got off the night shift and i'm going to smoke a bowl and hit the sack *

Need better pics. Especially a close of of some of the areoles so I could see how many spines per cluster and the angles/sizes and colors of them. Those pics are not very good. General shape looks much like a trichocereus.

Well, what does the label say? I'm assuming it doesnt say "Trichocereus Pachanoi" or "San Pedro"? And yeah, better pix please. Did you take those pix with a digital camera from 1995? My 86yr old grandma has a better camera than you!
Looks like a possible Trich but I dont think its San Pedro. The spines look too long for it to be SP, especially considering how small it is. Pedros that are 6ft tall & fat dont even have spines that long.
Not 100% sure on that so wait for one of the experts to chime in.

It's not a Trichocereus. I've always called these 'Pilosocereus', but maybe it's some other genus, I'm not sure.

It's not even a trichocereus so it can't be either of those.
Still stand by Tangich's id. Let it grow for a bit and then update this thread.

I'm gonna say its an elongated Trichocereus terscheckii that has recently received more sunlight. I do agree that a clearer photo is needed.
The reason I can see for saying Pilosocereus is the appealingly 'hairy' aureola but young terscheckii look that way in a few photos. Pilosocereus spines and ribs are much thinner IMO.
I can be wrong though; take a clearer shot and wait a few months and ask for another ID.
EDIT: Considering your location Pilosocereus seems more likely but I'll still stand by T.terscheckii.

My first thought was terscheckii so I may be wrong about it not being a trichocereus. Just doesn't look right.

Agreed. It didn't look exactly right for Pilosocereus to me either, but I wasn't sure what it reminded me of. After m.s said it, I realized that it was terscheckii. I wouldn't want to suggest hybrids, but who knows. What we can say with certainty tough, is that it definitely isn't san pedro or peruvianus. Regardless, it's a very pretty and interesting plant, I'd definitely want something like this in my collection! Good find OP, let it grow and nurture it even if it isn't suitable for consumption!

Cactus seems like miniature trichocereus pasacana or terscheckii.
These species are still much bigger and different appearance at stage of seedling.
It looks like t. pasacana from spines but size is not suitable to ID cactus to pasacana in my mind.
Very interesting cactus you have there.. top picture is similar to my t. terscheckii cactus but my cactus are way bigger with diameter and height.. My bigger t. terscheckii starts to grow columar soon.
This makes me think could you have cross breed seedling where another parent is t. terschechkii?
I have also small t. terscheckii but it's cobular and spines are way more bigger and larger compared to cactus size.
If your cactus are very big and have more ribs, I would say it's terscheckii... Now it looks like miniature t. terscheckii what I have never seen before. Cool find tho..
There is my terscheckii plants, one is younger and one are older but not started to grow columnar yet

to tell the truth it doesn't matter even if it was active i'm not looking for one for consumption just too have a cool cacti and this will be one happy cacti after a transplant to a bigger pot.
