A lesson in patience - cobweb?
    #1904372 - 09/11/03 07:40 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

I didn't distress the surface mycelium of my cakes after their dunk, and a couple of days later was feeling impatient having seen no changes in the terrarium. So I selected a likely looking cake, just one, and brought it out to scrape the surface with a fork that had been dipped in rubbing alcohol and dried on a clean pad.

Now, only one day later, I see this on it:

Hmm... grey, fine strands, melted when sprayed with H202. Cobweb, right? I sprayed the area around the cake as well, and the sides and lid, too. Guess I also need to start fanning more often.

Well, I'm sorry that your cake got contamed, but that is an excellant example of how cobweb looks on a cake.  Thanks for giving the pic and good luck on your other cakes!

Thanks. I saw the first pins just the other day :-)

I had moved the infected cake to its own soda bottle terrarium and had been spraying the cobweb with H202, but it just kept coming back. So yesterday when I noticed a different mold (pale green in color) growing on the side, I gave up.

Took the entire thing outside, buried the cake, spooned the perlite into iodine solution, sprayed the bottle down with bleach solution. <sigh>

Sad to say but that's an exellent example of cobweb growing on a cake.
