I used to just moisten the pearlite up really well and mist heavily before i left. If it's only say 2 days you'll be fine.

You can put a pile of wet vermiculite on the top of the cake before you go, as well as heavily mist the perlite and mist your cakes well.

What everyone else said ^
Should be okay for 2 days!

Fill a jar lid w/ring with vermiculite and then wet it down and set cake on top. As long as you dunked and rolled your cakes and your fc provides good humidity they should stay hydrated for days, maybe even weeks doing this. You might also want to try injecting them with sterile water before you leave.

Whoa whoa whoa is the wet vermiculite touching the perlite at the bottom or is it on top of the actual jar lid? Like, perlite first, then lid, then wet verm, then cake? or?

The lid for a mason jar comes in two pieces, right? Put those two pieces together and flip it upside down on your perlite so it's like a perfect sized little dish for your cake. Fill it with verm, moisten it and then set your cake on the verm filled jar lid. Simple as that.

Oh neat, haven't heard of that one. Hmm but will all the moisture from the verm end up being used? How would the water from the very bottom bit of verm (that's not touching the cake, and is underneath the rest) end up getting to the cake? Unless the vermiculite from the top absorbs the bottom moisture so it acts as a reservoir for itself?
