3 Monotub questions with pictures

1. As you may have noticed in the pictures my substrate only takes up half the container, and on the other half on the container are straggling pieces of colonized substrate. Will these small peices be prone to infection and if so how should i remove them. Hydroxide spray them first then throw them away?
2. Since the substrate takes up so much of the container will I have to mist more? When I opened the container there was condensation on the walls but not alot.

That is probably not going to be able to maintain proper RH. If it was me I would carefully pop that sub out and put it in a SGFC.

hmmmm well....I dunno why you have the jars in there. Uncolonized substrate will contam the easiest. Hydroxide spray doesn't kill things really just throw contamed stuff outside or in an outside trashcan. What did you make your monotub with cause this doesn't look like a monotub really (like the ones in my sig)?

RH = Relative Humidity.
SGFC = Shotgun Fruiting Chamber.

Misting and fanning is still part of using a shot gun fruiting chamber design too. But fungi has to have as much free air exchange as it can but be in a 80% humidity at the lowest when your not there to fan it or contams will happen or they will grow really poorly.

Colonized strays will be ok you don't have to clean them out in my noob opinion. My first tub looked very close to that one and it produced 5 flushes a bit over 2 ounces dry. So while your tub is not ideal and you will need to help the RH some how because the micro climate isn't complete
Mabey a tray of perlite on the empty side?

If i move this to a shotgun tub, can i just have a bowl of vermiculite on the side instead of filling the whole bottom up with perlite?

No...it doesn't work like that....you would need perlite.

You're not understanding the concept of a SGFC. The more perlite, the better to increase evaporation. Take that sub out and put it in a plastic tub then put that in the SGFC.

No, it should be on a coaster of some kind.
No direct perlite contact!
And a SGFC has 1/4" holes spaced 2" apart in a grid pattern on all 6 sides, top and bottom.
Then the chamber is raised so air can pass up thru the bottom holes, and up thru the perlite.

Yes. Its a little crude but should work better than the mono attempt would have. Maybe try and poke a few holes in the tape.

This is great i can't wait to see if it works.
Make sure there are holes in your bottom and top. Then put the tub on tin can stilts or something so air can flow up through the bottom.
