Man the Pens are in a lull right now but when playoff time comes things will get real interesting having Detroit in the east. It almost looks like the re-alignment was set up to have a Wings vs Blackhawks cup match up.

Bolland shut down Crosby last night, just killed him in the faceoff dot and he had no space at all.
If my Leafs could play consistent we'd be a bigger force in the East.
Either the winter classic will pull em together as a unit, or break them apart, and with the chaotic media in Toronto it should be just another camera or few along side the hundreds that are already there.
Plus the Pens have injuries, they just got Letang back and Scuds is out now. You play the Canes next, Ward is out and the Pens should bounce back.
GO LEAFS!!!
PS: it could be worse... you could be a Rangers/Flyers/Sabres/Oilers fan

... they were a problem Saturday night, Leafs won 4-1
How about Vanek to the Islanders for Moulson and 1st rd 2014 & 2nd rd 2015 picks Both players are UFA so basically Garth Snow just threw away 2 picks if Vanek goes to market in the offseason No extensions in place for Vanek or Moulson

So the Avalanche had this great start due in large part to goaltending. They have this Russian goalie with great stats, but he just got a felony arrest for beating up his Russian girlfriend. Maybe he can pay his way out of this, get the charges reduced, etc. But if he misses significant time Colorado could have some problems. This guy was mentioned as an early favorite for the Vezina Trophy. Even if his play remains stellar, this could cost him the trophy.

I'm going out on a limb here But when the Pens beat the Rangers in the game tonight that pretty well sets Their season It always has worked for like 15 years New York is always a strong team. But if the Pens win tonight I can see Lord Stanley hanging out in Pittsburgh come spring!

Panthers GM Dale Tallon fired head coach Kevin Deenen and his assistants. Peter Horachek was moved up from the minors to be interim coach. It sounded like Tallon would have preferred to fire the whole team. He says players who don't perform will all be gone too. Carolina made the playoffs for the first time in 12 years 2 years ago and even won the division, but last year had the lowest point level in the league.
Tallon was the GM who put nearly all the important pieces together for the 2010 Blackhawks Cup. He lost that job for three reasons 1. He acquired goalie Christobal Huet from Montreal, payed him 3 million a year, then put his sorry ass in the minors, so the money didn't count against the cap. 2. He overpaid defensemen Brian Campbell, a good player, 7.1 million per year over 8 years. This was bigger money than the Hawks' stars received. 3. The Hawks hired the legendary Scotty Bowmann with 9 cups coaching Pittsburgh, Montreal and Detroit, and 3 other cups as an executive. Scotty persuaded management to bring in his son Stan to replace Tallon.
Tallon has proven he can do the job. Whether he can do it in Carolina is anybody's guess.

The Steven Stamkos injury looks really significant. He was tied for the lead in scoring and goals. Tampa Bay had a 1 point lead over Boston in the Atlantic. I don't usually pay much attention to what happens in Florida or the South in hockey but this is different.

I think I finally figured why people stopped posting in the NHL thread. The Western Conference has been opening up a can of whoop ass on the East. If you took the leading team from the east, Tampa Bay with 28 points, and put them in the West, they would be tied for the last playoff spot if the season ended now.
I know nothing matters except the playoffs, but this is rather surprising.

4 players touch the puck, and it ends up in the back of the net. All in under 2 seconds.

just another reason why hockey is the best sport...
crazy precision with little time..
cant so though my team hasnt done this before tho, we were always taught to know your surroundings, n know what your goingto do before you get the puck, makes sense here.

Ah! My hockey friends. Good to see you all. Boy the Hawks aren't looking great within their own division. Got pantsed by Colorado and Nashville. I think 2 losses to St. Louis. I can't wait for football season to end and watch me some hockey every Sunday. Crawford has been overplayed and is looking weak now, and I'm scared once again. I never have confidence in him. Khabi is probably done for good. Curious to see what Raanta can do in the backup role.

I agree that goaltending is a concern, but how bad can we be with the best record in the league.

its kinda bullshit that thornton is prob gonna get like a 10 game suspension, it really wasnt THAT bad...if orpik didnt get KO'ed it woulda just been a 2 minute penalty
fuck the penguins and orpik deserved it, fuck him...and what Neal did to marchand was 100% dirtier than what thorty did...he skated out of his way to knee a player in the head down on the ground and looking the other way
marchand just wasnt a pussy about it, unlike orpik
