is anyone else afraid of having a child for this reason? * 1
    #19041601 - 10/27/13 04:35 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I'm afraid that the kid will be mentally handicapped.

I'm in no shape to bring a child in to this world right now anyways, but I don't think I'll ever be able to get over it.

I'm afraid that I won't be able to love them and that they will be a burden on me/my future wife for the rest of our lives, I know that's fucked up, but I can't change how I feel.

I would think about adoption, but I would like to be able to have a child that I actually took part in making.

Some people just get dealt the shitty/fucked up gene card and come out all derpy. Having a baby is like russian roulette. Might get a normy, might get a ginger, might get a potatoe.

Are you worried about how the child will initially be, or if you will be able to raise it?

If you think that the kid will be handicapped/retarded, then you might see it as a challenge to give yourself the life experience not many people will have.
As for not loving it, you could always give it up for adoption before it becomes cognitive.

As for me; I'm not afraid. I don't want kids, anyway.

OP, I bet a lot more people think that than you think.

If I were to find out my unborn child would have down syndrome, I would have an abortion. I wouldn't want that child to grow up in this cruel world with something like that.

Honestly if any of the ultrasounds showed that the baby would have a severe handicap, I would abort.

And its my uterus so I can do what I want! :peyotezen:

My girl is pro abortion and actually told me the other night she'd about if I got her preggo.

If my baby had downs I would not want to deal with that. Fuck that noise.

Have you seen someone with downs theow a temper tantrum? It's hilarious for everyone else but the parents. No amount of candy calms them down

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying but I'm afraid the child will come out retarted.

I couldn't do that, I would probably think about them all the time until I drove myself insane.

Yeah, always had the same worries too. BUT, since my GF and I found out that we can't have kids together (she was diagnosed with severe endometriosis, which means basically zero chance of conception) that concern went out the window and I'd just be happy to have a little rug rat regardless. :frown:

I agree with that, I don't have the authority (nor do I want it) to tell my future significant other to abort a child if it was handicapped, but I hope they would have the sense to do it.

Im afraid if I ever do have children I will try and raise them to be what I want them to be, instead of what they want. Initially the children learn morals, views and everything through observation of the parents and their surroundings, media ofcourse -

I wouldent allow my children to watch television for more than a few hours a week, they would study even when school is out, and forced to read a new book a month, and by age five-six I would make it a point to learn a second language after their basic understanding of english is rooted. Sports and activities, and to say what they think, be blunt.

Omg, I could never have a child.

I would try to have them do stuff like that, but never force it.

They'll probably grow up and resent all the stuff you made them do, then they won't like learning, they'll never read again, they'll become television junkies, etc... and they might disown you for forcing them.

I see this every few months at my doctor and it makes me uncomfortable to be sitting there and trying to pretend like i don't realize that anything is going on. It's not like it makes me mad or anything, just seeing the parents look at you and they are saying sorry to you with their eyes  it makes me feel bad that they have to go through that. Being in your 60s taking care of your 20/30 something child.. I can't imagine. The parents that stick through it all the way are special people though

And they often have a host of other medical issues that are very expensive even with insurance helping out they still get buried with bills.

First hand experiences, though I've had none myself with such a disorder, could really put things into perspective. I hope you're never burdened with such a situation.

My grandfather and all his brothers have suffered and died from Alzheimers condition, their sons, and my father all have shown signs of the conditions early into their sixties.

This is what scares me, to have to see it for myself and one day possibly pass down that experience to my children, as to say them watching their father ( me ) become irritable, and restless, and only memories twenty years prior with no connection to reality as it is in the here and now.

I'd rather be alone for that.

Honestly I'd rather be dead than go through/make other people go through that, I'd probably take myself out if I was coherent enough to do so, probably with if oxymorphone, a nice euphoric death.

Me and my girl just broke up because of the "do you want kids thing". She wants kids and I don't. Same question has been popping up in my head recently.. what if I had a kid and he ended up being retarded...

One of the reasons I don't want kids.

Too much of a burden for me to deal with. Call me selfish!
Well I am pretty selfish come to think of it, but I'm honest about it

Not all problems can be tested for in utero though, and the girl could be pro-life.

Yeah it's a common misconception that every problem can be screened for. Some issues are even caused during the birth itself.

Yeah I got fucked up during my birth pretty big time, its why my eyes are so bad, why the whole left side of my body has problems, and it caused a few other problems that I don't really care to discuss.

I almost killed my mom and shit, when I finally came out I was breech and had the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck and shit.

It was all so avoidable to if the doctor would've just listened to my mom and other family members, they kept telling him something was wrong, he didnt listen though, he just sat there reading a book or something they said.

My parents are against sueing people though, so am I really too, but this guy fucked me up pretty bad for my whole life, I really think we should've been compensated for his malpractice.

You think there is a reason this happened to you? Maybe something you can take away from it to better yourself?

Nope, I think its total bullshit and it makes me angry, if I knew who the doctor was and I saw him I'd probably handicap him for the rest of his life.

Do you have Horner's Sydrome?

I have a mild case of it, from having the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck, lack of O2 etc.

Not really noticable except my right pupil is like 3x the size of my left pupil.  Looks pretty gnarly when I'm tripping, always get called out on it haha.

looks alot like David Bowie's

and that if i have children, my dna would live on with them
so could the dna that was essentially me that transferred over into my children
be the ghost of my future self?
