Should be fine... Depending on the humidity and your area, the fan alone should be enough to get them cracker dry! Unless you live in the rainforest or something. Give it a try.

They'd be better being fanned in open air where all the moisture has somewhere to go. The rice is pointless in that setup because it cant absorb moisture from anything in the surrounding area, because its constantly being replaced by the fan with relatively humid air.

Is that a dehydrator the fans sitting on? Why not just use it to dehydrate the mushys at 125F? Thats what most of us do here. The actives in them wont break down from the heat of a dehydrator. Of course i fan dry a bit first before dehydrating so they dont stick together.

Most of us just use the dehydrator at the highest temp, not 125F.

I have never heard of anyone drying at that temp.....the more heat you use, the faster they will dry, and the less potency loss there will be.

Yes.

The actives in mushrooms don't break down until FAR past 300F.

Until they are cracker dry.

This is variable depending on the size of the fruits.

I run mine for 18-24 hours usually, cram packed.

You dont get all your mushys stuck together from dehydrating freshly picked? When i dehydrate freshly picked, they always stick entirely together in a big disc. Unless you got straight completely nothing but closed caps, then it might be a bit easier to seperate them since the caps are still solidly connected to the stems.

No, because I take my time and organize them like so.

I have found that cutting out pieces of window screen to line your dehydrator trays works really well. When they are dry you just pick up the screen off the rack, fold it in half, and dump them in the bag

Notahacker is right on all this. The heat in your fruit dryer is ok and wont hurt anything. They dont get hurt till the heat is above 300F

I did learn the hard way, that putting them into the food dryer straight after picking, they will get real ugly because the tissue is still active and reacting to the heat (turning dark).
After 2 days of normal drying that doesn't happen anymore and they can be crisp-dry in no-time in the food dryer.
This might not happen at more expensive models with adjustable temp, but watch out with a cheap ass one like I have that only has a on/off button.

Bruising is not the actives reacting to the heat.

Bruising and potency have nothing in common.

Mine only has an on/off switch, and it get's to about 160F....I harvest them and put them straight into the dehydrator, usually for 18-24 hours.

The longer it takes them to get dry, the more potency loss will occur.

QFT.

I put mine right into a dehydrator for 8-12 hours (whatever it takes, really.)  Mine come out bone dry and 0 complaints about potency.

I've dried em straight picked into the food dehydrator
and i've left them in front of fans for a couple days
then finished em in the dehydrator. I've never noticed
a difference in potency. I do notice they look way better
when they fan dry some first. They dont shrivel up like
raisins so much.

It's not something you would really notice.

But there is potency loss from oxidation.
