I have to fan dry for now until I get a dehydrator. I see the need. I picked an early dude for breakfast and fanned him enough to see blues and greens.. my question. Can the fan be too powerful? This fans low is higher than most highs. All I have. Im gonna use it but wonder is their any harm.. can it cause it to rot or anything? The really high winds will cause extreme bruising? I'm just aiming it at the floor with them on some paper towels against the wall so they can't fly into oblivion

I think you should be okay. I use a low-medium power fan about a foot or so away and fan them for 12-24 hours depending on size, then switch to my dehydrator. I recommend getting a dehydrator.

You're good. Oxygen will oxidize the psilocin, causing it to degrade and turn blue, but the psilocybin is pretty hardy and wont degrade as easily. Before i had any desiccant or a dehydrator i would try to just only fan until cracker dry, but you cant because the RH in the air will always keep it slightly moist.
Then i realized you can fan dry for a day or so, then desiccant in a chamber (look up desiccant chamber) to finish it cracker dry in the next couple days. Never desiccant a fully wet mushy; fan dry just a wee bit first.
What i do is fan dry 12-20hrs or overnight, then dehydrate them in a food dehydrator at 125F just until they're all cracker crisp. I fan dry for a bit before i dehydrate them because if you dehydrate them when real wet, the caps can tend to split due to the trays squishing them. Also, if you dehydrate when freshly picked, when done dehydrating, they will all be stuck together in a giant dehydrated cracker dry disc of unison which is nearly impossible to seperate into seperate fruitbodies without breaking caps from stems.

Yeaa.. I know about damprid. Was doing that tomorrow. Gonna get a dehydrator soon after because with winter soon its stupid to have a high power fan. I'm just learning for fun. A lot so far. People are helpful here.

Spore Lord don't worry about the Damp Rid. Just grab a dehydrator. Nothing fancy. $40-50 and it is a one time cost. Something with temperature control. You can also dry other foods in it so it will be useful to have

There is no evidence that suggest bruising has anything to do with actives degrading.
Bruising and potency have nothing in common.

If you have a dehydrator, you are just wasting time fan drying them.
Just throw them in the dehydrator and get them cracker dry as soon as possible so there is less potency loss from oxidation.
Exposure to air degrades potency.

Can't do a dehydrator now... gonna do damp rid this first flush. I plan on doing putting the damprid in the bottom of a Tupperware thing with the fruit on a coffe filter to seperate them.. or something similar. Hows that sound for now?

Sounds fine, just make sure to fan dry them for a good amount of time first.
Desiccant chambers are only designed to get the last 10-15% of moisture out of the fruits.

Notahacker.. I wanna be like you when I grow up.
I plan on fan dry for at least 24 hours. just one cake so far is ready. The rest is days behind. This took two weeks. They were all done together.. sat for an extra week and all.
No scale yet. Anybody wanna guess the dry for my giggle?

I only fan dry more like 6-12 hrs to get a bit of the water evaporated first so they fit easy and dont all stick together in a giant dehydrated disc of mushys that causes all your stems to break from the caps when you try to pry out each individual fruitbody. Im talking about dehydrating 80+ fresh zips at once; they gotta be crammed in there for that and it causes them to stick together pretty badly.
If you were just drying a small amount and they weren't all crammed into each other, ya you could dehydrate right when picked. But when dehydrating a bulk amount, i fan dry a bit first. I guess i shoulda been more specific as to bulk dehydrating vs small scale dehydrating
