Paxillus cf. involuus, however there are many species going under that name.  Could you please get a DNA sequence of the ITS gene and post it here?

Also, what kind of trees were nearby?

How would one go about getting the genes sequenced? I have some huge
P. involutus growing right outside my front door under a true cedar.

Or maybe more accurately, "looks like".

Sometimes the acrynym "aff." is used, which means affinity.  It's close to this species, but I don't really know and do not feel like doing the microscopy/dna/research to put a solid name on it.

Are you sure it is with the true cedar?  You could take it to a university for sequencing, or maybe email Else Vellinga and see if you can make her interested in it.  She was working on a Paxillus paper a couple years back.

Yes it is a true cedar. Planted in a Fred Meyer parking lot.

I live just on the other side of the wall from Fred Meyer. I have all
sorts of stuff in my yard.

Boletus of the Xerocomus type. I think B. zelleri

A couple of different Corts.

An orange peziza or something close.

A ton of Laccaria.

There have been more.

Some LWM that did not develope enough for ID this summer.

I want to know the sequence of the ITS gene, and I want to know what trees were nearby.
