Boletus x ?
    #19040720 - 10/27/13 01:08 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Loc.: Slovenia. First impression: Xerocomus badius, but no:

The inside of stem is red without any air contact.
As you can see partly red also outside.

photo

It can't be Boletus chrysenteron
Too fat, too smooth cap, does not fit on other properties.

Defnitely looks like some kind of Xerocomus.  Are you able to sequence the ITS gene?

xerocomellus chrysenteron is equal to Xerocomus porosporus by local mushroom page, except spores.

Read description for xerocomellus chrysenteron again , could fit except for smooth cap surface.

see again: this, old, joung specimens, no way any of them could turn into cap surface like on new image.

Can't sequence its gene, if local guys will not came up with something reasonable, will send them sample to take a look at spores.
