where to find Dayton blower switch, 4 speed, 9 Amp
    #19040481 - 10/27/13 12:07 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I have this blower - but where do I find the 4 speed, 9 Amp switch, or should I build one, or hard wire it to the best setting after flowhood is built? Have asked FP as well, but they don't list it. It is the same as Grainger 1XJY1, but they don't seem to have such a switch either.

wire connections as follows

purple common wire -- to line
black-1
yellow-2
orange-3
red-4
brown ground
brown ground

(I don't know why there are 2 grounds)

Just hardwire it later.  Don't forget to tape the unused wires.

I just have to say thanks to RR, because of one of his posts I was able to make sense of the electrical diagram and got my blower hooked up!

The highest setting will be more than enough for a 2x4 fp filter. Is that what ur blowing thru?  We have built out several of these for folks. We use the same blower and like rr said we just hard wired it to highest setting;  no need for a switch. It is still a bit too much blower so we use a thick prefilter and it is perfect.

Good idea, to use a thick pre filter
I could use some flow hood filters(about 1.5 inches thick) I already have from from ebay that are unspecified as part of my prefilter, as due to their lack of specitication I don't trust them for the output.

For the output a 99.99% Filtera 24" x 36" seems big enough.

Does it matter if the frame is metal or wood?
And I would guess a header makes construction easier?

Thanks RR

I will definitely tape unused wires.

And I believe, now that I have looked at the unit again, that the 2 brown wires go to the capacitor and are not grounds, as I previously thought from looking at the printout.

So am I correct, in thinking, that if I use a three prong plug, the ground wire would be attached to the "chassis"?

Correct.  The brown wires should be already connected to the capacitor.  The white wire on the cord goes to the white wire on the motor.  The black wire on the cord goes to any speed wire.  Green to chassis.

--------YUP that's exactly what they do

  RR

The white wire on the cord goes to the white wire on the motor. RR

But on this particular unit there is no white - the diagram shows

purple-common wire -- to line
black-1
yellow-2
orange-3
red-4
brown-capacitor
brown-capacitor

so white must go to purple

The black wire on the cord goes to any speed wire.  Green to chassis.

Green to chassis for grounding ----- Thanks RR
