Making APE swabs

Ok guys I got a bit of a question here about albino cubensis, specificly swabbing APE. As the albino spores are lacking any pigment, how can you tell if a swab attempt is successful or not? I was thinking about using a sharpie to color the swab black before sterilizing it to see if the spores might contrast against it
Anyone have any experience with this?

Not sure what you mean by swab. I have used hospital q tips to swab spores onto agar. Even with dark prints, you cannot see too much on the end of the qtip. If you are using albino, just swipe across your print in an s motion and then do the same to inoculate an agar dish, swiping in an S motion.

Because the penis envy varieties are notoriously poor spore producers, most people swab the gills with a sterile swap to get the spores rather than attempting to print them. I have recieved PE swabs from members that were nice and dark letting me know that the swab does indeed have the desired spores on them. However with albino penis envy the spores are clear meaning you will not be able to see them on the swab I use an inoculation loop to normally get my spores off a print onto agar.

Just try using a swab It has worked for me plenty of times, yeah I have a inoculation loop too, but lately I have been using swabs because I don't need to flame sterilize, it is too much of a pain to keep flaming tools when working in a GB and they are simply tossed in the trash when I am done. Good Luck buddy!

That is my backup plan for sure, fact is that I already have many clones and am planning to isolate for good genetics, I've no intention of doing a lot of ms with these. However i was planning to do a big giveaway in the new year and was hoping to have these in the mix. I just want to be sure that anything i giveaway is actually viable.

PC some q-tips inside a jar with a filtered lid.
Crack the jar open in your SAB.
Make swabs from the fruits (do this in your SAB as well).
If you can't see the spores, you can certainly still see if they germinate on your petris

Was pretty much my plan I guess I just wanted to know if anyone thought that adding a dark color to help the spores stand out would have any potential drawbacks. Guess I'll put on my experimenter hat and try a few of each out
Thanks Frank, appreciate the response

I love doing giveaways, makes me feel like I'm giving back to the community that has helped me so much Watch for it in the marketplace, I won't just be giving away one variety

Yeah I'd love to do something along those lines, I need to pay dues And good idea Frank, I get my swabs from Hospitals so they come in individual wrappings, but I like the pcing qtips in a jar thing. Brilliant
