Never dunk any cubensis substrate and place inside the
refrigerator. That so called cold shocking method is out
dated. And isn't even true cold shocking. Cakes are the
only thing dunked for multiple hours. P.cubensis are a
tropical species.
For bulk substrate simply pour water over the substrate
until the water rises about an inch over the substrate. For
1 hour only. Then drain off excess water.

I think dunking bulk substrates is unnecessary. You have to dunk cakes for several hours because they are so dense it takes a long time for them to soak in water. With bulk substrate this is not the case. You can simply mist heavily after the first flush and it will soak right in. Repeat every day or two (as needed)

Once I forgot about a bulk sub I was dunking and left it for 8 hours. Thing was so waterlogged and it ended up taking 2.5 weeks for me to see the next flush. Moral is don't dunk excessively, bulk subs are not cakes. Like strom said a good misting is usually enough. If I feel its dry I might actually dunk the whole sub, tho there is no need to submerge it completely, and IME 30 min is usually enough.

After each flush I prefer letting the substrate rest for
3-5 days without misting or any maintenance. Allowing
it to become almost fully dry before re-hydrating.
The next flush IME always starts within 1-2 days after
re-hydrating.
The same with with cakes, as I've noticed no matter what
there is about a 4-7 day wait before the next flush regardless
of when you dunk. Although I found the method I use to be more
prolific.

Thats how I do it too. I don't know why, I read it somewhere and it stuck. Now I always like to a give a little "recovery" period before the next flush. I've had a couple people tell me its unnecessary, but whatever, its just as unnecessary to dunk it right away lol.

On the same note I have also done the just misting thing, seems to work ok for 2-3 flushes, but I feel like they are smaller flushes compared to dunked subs.

How do you do this? My bulk sub floats when I add water to it.
