    #19039478 - 10/27/13 06:35 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Attempted to dry freshly picked mushrooms in the oven for the first time, at 60oc, about twenty minutes in they looked like this, is it normal!?

Thanks

Baking shrooms in the oven to dry is the worst way to dry them I'm not sure of the temp that psychoactives break down but I wouldn't risk it dry them By fan or in a dehydrator I'm a chef and orange soggyness is the mushroom body cooking

Oven drying works fine. As a note though it's not necessary to actually put them in the oven if you're worried about burning them. You can set them on a pan on the edge of the stove and leave oven door cracked open so the heat and dry air flows past them.

I don't see anything wrong those mushrooms. Make sure they're completely cracker dry, as in you would be able to easily crumble them into powder if you wanted, before you store them in any kind of container.

I put them back in the fan oven on the lowest heat, 2 hours later they were crisp black and tiny! Couldn't face taking a photo, batch ruined :frown:

I have some air drying in a tuperware with rice, hopefully that'll go better
